I was married to a conservative man, who was highly ethical- also among the top ten of all the people I have known. My son, who is (as I mentioned earlier) more liberal than I (and I am socially liberal for the most part) is one of the most outstanding men I've ever seen. When he was young, I had my doubts. He went through a pretty rough spell when I didn't know if he would even survive to adulthood, but he has surpassed my expectations by far. You may not know any liberals whom you consider ethical. I can assure that they do indeed exist, and that I have had the extreme pleasure of knowing them.
Fair points but I guess what I mean is that to espouse liberalism you have to be dishonest with yourself first and everyone else second.

No, that is not the case either. Liberalism is a good thing, if it's true liberalism. The problem is, what many in our culture believe is liberalism, isn't liberal at all, but just authoritarianism under a different guise. The founders of the country were liberals of their day. Unfortunately, today, American liberalism means that you support big government and social programs that are breaking us financially. That's not the liberalism of which I speak.

To me liberalism means things like thinking America is the bad guy in the world and being anti American family values and being a radical environmentalist but that's just me.

    Eh.

Kids like to do anything their parents don't want them to. And besides. They're not gonna get that interested in politics until they're out of the house anyway.

Then you are misinformed, as is much of the US population. Liberalism isn't the enemy. Liberalism (the real deal) is the foundation for this nation's founding. American liberals are often just authoritarians with a different agenda than the religious right.

THat is the type of attitude that is taking us down the path toward a more authoritarian state. Words and definitions matter. When we can't even speak intelligently, it shows that we have become stupid, and are satisfied in our ignorance.

That isn't necessarily so. It wasn't true of me or of my kids either.
