Pretty much an effective and historic use for the military. I would not violate my oath.
While I am sure you were never given illegal orders... surely soldiers think about the morality of orders if they are questionable?
What in the world does any of that have to do with the thread topic??? Jesus NIMBY...
I hate to say this but I don't believe any other CIC would ask to the troops to do this.

Don't you know wants to make it a left right thing....
Just because Obama hates the military is not a reason to send them there.........They did not sign up for this. I honestly don't know what I would do.
I guess dropping off medication is not enough, we now have to send our troops to face possible death.
If you were ordered to go by the president, would you follow orders, or would you say no and face a dishonorable discharge?

Considering I deployed to Afghanistan, where there's real danger, no I would not refuse. I'm not quite sure what you're expecting is going to happen, but soldiers won't be licking the inside of ebola patients' cheeks.
Considering we've all long suspected you were a coward, this isn't surprising in the slightest.
Hey, come on now my friend.
He is entitled to his opinion.
Just because he does know if he wants to ship to a foreign country to offer assistance to non-Americans that are suffering from a disease with a roughly 70% mortality rate...I don't think that makes him a coward.
I think that makes him human.
I often disagree with him and agree with you, but I don't think helping non-American, Ebola victims in Africa is what most Americans signed up for when they entered their recruitment office.
If it was a volunteer-only assignment, I am not sure what I would do.
But either way, I would be afraid of contracting the illness.
I hope that does not make me a coward in your eyes - as I have respect for you - but there it is.
We're not talking about whether or not we want to do it, we're talking about if we would do it were we in the military. I didn't want to go to afghanistan, but I did, because it was my contractual obligation. Navy Pride implied that he would consider desertion, which I think is laughably overblown.
I guess it's good that he was in the navy safe on a boat instead of putting his precious neck in danger with the real men.
All he said was that he was not sure what he would do...I see nothing wrong with having doubt.
He also said something else and I agree with it;
'I believe the people in the military that go should be volunteers.'
This is not defending the Constitution and the sovereignty of America...this is helping sick people of a foreign country.
A noble act, sure. But not what militaries are designed for, Imo.
You obviously disagree...fine, that is your right.
But I don't think you should call a person a coward just because they show doubt about what decision to make.
Doubt is natural.
Again, you disagree...so be it.
Good day, my friend.
If you're in the military and are informed that you're being deployed, you don't have a choice. Navy implied he would sit there and decide if he would go or not. If he were to choose the latter, it's desertion.
Afghanistan has absolutely nothing to do with protecting America, and neither did Iraq. For that matter, neither did Vietnam, Korea or the Gulf War, but you know what? Soldiers went anyways, because when you raise your right hand you lose your ability to decide where you want to go.
I've fought in a war I actively disagreed with. You get over it and do your job.
Besides, is there any evidence whatsoever that any soldiers stand any chance of contracting ebola?
Properly quarantined... So, you don't see how that statement backs up my concern?
I hate to say this but I don't believe any other CIC would ask to the troops to do this.
Wow....this is a first. The first time I've ever heard a neo-con find a war that they didn't love. oh....I forgot.....the CIC is Obama. If this were Reagan or GWB.....people like NP would be screaming hallelujia and proclaiming them our protector and savior!
The ebola virus has the potential to end up in the US. Seems to me that the only thing stopping Ebola from becoming a pandemic is the fact that it incapacitates and kills so quickly. Victims don't have much of a chance to spread it around a lot before they die.
However, as the virus mutates that could change. I shudder to speculate what an outbreak in a US metropolis like NYC, DC or Miami would look like.
So this qualifies as a national security threat IMO. Obama is doing the right thing for once. Fight it over there before we end up fighting it on our shores.
Where did you hear that?Sending 3000 infantry men with guns and shovels, well I don't get that.
Ain't God a peach?
I wonder how they model these projections. You just know the final figure's gonna be 100,000 more or less than that.
The culture enables it, and hinders government response.
That's it? That's the only argument you can muster?
Which is probably the biggest issue of all outside of the actual disease. I mean, we've seen a health center get raided and recently a health team was murdered.
Sad situation.
Just pointing out the irony in it all. And don't think you are fooling anyone apdst....you'd be there right alongside NP cheering just as loud.
