Our troops have on other occasions done construction, transported supplies, and acted as security for medical aid and food distribution. Just to name a few.

And they are indeed trained to do all these things.

Our troops have done what is required of them in war zones. They are not supposed to be a social welfare organization. I repeat, it's important to limit the ebola outbreak. There are non military organizations better suited to do the work.

well, okay. Once you give me that I am objectively correct, I'll admit, I don't really have anywhere to go from there.

They are supposed to protect and defend our country. Which they will be doing if they can keep Ebola contained.

Were they supposed to rebuild Iraq? Deliver and protect relief supplies in the Sudan? Somalia?

Lots of government subcontractors. Haliburton for one.

Exactly what can the military possibly do to contain ebola? I guess they could shoot anyone trying to leave the area. When they supply humanitarian aid it's generally done by air drop like recent drops in Iraq or under the auspises of the UN.

Are you not aware of the capabilities of security forces?

When there are airdrops, the people also need to be protected when those supplies are handed out. Again: more security to prevent rioting and to conduct things in an orderly fashion. We did this is the Sudan and Somalia. Otherwise people come in and steal it all for the black market. They guard convoys from similar 'pirates.'

And the more we *support the treatment of the people there* the less chance there is that the disease will spread. They dont have enough facilities for patients...so they are MOVING them elsewhere. Our troops will help build and/or protect those doing the building.

    This is not rocket science.

It's not so voluntary after you join though.

I think it's strange to say it's a volunteer military force and then say those that join have no say but to do what they're told.
