In the United States House of Representatives, the District is represented by a delegate, who is not allowed to vote on the House floor but can vote on procedural matters and in congressional committees. D.C. residents have no representation in the United States Senate. As a result of the Twenty-third Amendment to the United States Constitution, adopted in 1961, the District is entitled to three electoral votes in the election of the President of the United States.

    Precisely.

I'm against the idea of D.C. statehood but believe D.C. Representative in Congress should have voting rights. I'd also lean towards giving the district Senators as well
That might be a good idea. Or give them 1 Representative and they are added to the "districts" of one Maryland Senate Seat and one from Virginia.

    LOL

Desperate for a couple more Dems in the Senate?

I think the way revenue is confiscated by the various government entities throughout the country makes this "taxation without representation" meme a bit of a hard sell. I think there would be very little sympathy on that tactic from taxpayers around the nation.

While I may oppose such a move to add D.C., there are perhaps better arguments than this taxation thing.

Just give the people voting rights and call it done. Sorry, but I'm not open to making the capital a state.

Until the morons stop electing a coke head to public office they don't deserve a vote in congress.

Re: Should DC Become the 51st State?

If representation is so important to the residents of the District, then the district should be returned to Maryland and they can all enjoy their representation as Marylanders. This is the same as when the remaining 33 square miles was returned to Virginia.
