Yeah, it is painful to see but its a reality that people should know about.

It could still be a crucifixion, although I’m certainly not an executioner or expert on the subject. Crucifixion is simply death by suffocation. With your arms outstretched and the rest of your body hanging it becomes very difficult to breath. The Romans were exceptionally cruel in their crucifixions as they used them to control their subject. The Romans would put a small, wood platform under the feet of the person being crucified. This allowed the person being crucified to “stand up” on the platform and catch his breath from time to time. Once the Romans became bored with the crucifixion they would break the condemned’s legs. No longer able to stand the individual died from suffication.

The guy in the picture looks like he’s being crucified rather quickly by not having any ability to stand with his legs tied outward.

Crucifixions are a popular way of public slaughter. Especially if you are going for shock value. I doubt there's some deeper meaning behind them.

Do these crucifixions have a religious tie to Christianity, representing the death of Jesus Christ? Is it a mockery? I know its a public show of what happens to those who defy the Islamic state, but is there a christian undertow to it? What do you think?
Actually, it's something they've taken directly from the Quran.

The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter.

    No, there isn't.

Christianity doesn't own crucifixion or the symbolism behind it. Believe it or not, history didn't begin when the bible was written.

The Romans usually reserved crucifixion for those convicted of political crimes, like sedition. It was meant to demean the crucified and act as a warning to everyone else.

Marcus Licinius Crassus, who was a contemporary of Caesar's, rose to fame by putting down a slave revolt and then crucifying the 6,000 survivors. Their crosses lined the Via Appia for miles.
