    Basic Truths

OK so ive been looking at a lot of threads lately that divide exactly on party lines and ideals. Aborting, religion, foreign policy's, climate change, gun control, etc.... So this is a thread attempting to find the middle ground that we all hold true, regardless of what party we side with. Consider it common sense truths.

The poll is set to accept more that one check mark so feel free to vote as many times as you want.

    All of those are debatable.

Where's the option for "none of the above"? This is because that the only basic truth is: we will all agree to disagree.

In my view, all of your options in the poll are, at least at this time, issues that are debatable on ideological and often partisan grounds. As such, none of them are "basic truths" - issues are issues, simply because they aren't givens.

A basic truth for me, as it relates to this site, is "everyone is entitled to respect regardless of their opinions".

The whole "party lines" thing isn't as clear cut as it might first appear. There are some vocal politicos who take predetermined positions and make the party political but there are a lot more people who will consider each issue on its merits and reach more nuanced conclusions. Rather than playing to the politicos tune, I'd suggest just ignoring them and conversing with the normal people.

I didn't see any truths in that list.
If you live long enough, you will live in a foreign country, because the past is foreign to the present. We lived differently then. The only constant is change!

Someone actually didn't agree with this one? Some people are just argumentative.

I would say the Earth is important, at least to some degree.

I wouldn't label any of these as "basic truths", just my opinion.

Criminals need to go to jail and serve their time: Wait what? Why should locking someone in a cage be the reaction to every single crime? That's idiotic and fascistic. No, we shouldn't lock people in prison for jay-walking or other non-violent crimes. It should only be used when they are a real, violent danger to society. No.

Once we are born, life has undeniably begun: By at least this time, yes, it has begun. I however thing it starts a bit earlier.Yes.

Nukes should be used as a last option, if an option at all: By using a nuclear weapon our government would be intentionally targeting civilians to make as many innocent people die as possible. That is not warfare, it's genocide. Yes.

The national debt is rising, and should be falling: I don't subscribe to the idiotic Keynesian ideology that non-stop money printing and making it rain is a good idea. We need to get our finances in order and be more responsible. Yes.

Earth is important, and destroying it should be avoided: Agree. Something should be done, and the government is probably the only organization with the power to do it. Yes.

People who are capable of working (mentally, physically) should be working or trying to find work: If they don't need money why do they need to work? What about retirees, rich people, house wives, etc.? Why should they work if they have their finances in order? No.
