My younger sister teaches school. I visited her in school one day two years ago, and as I walked down the hall, I stopped outside a class room in which a young teacher was instructing her class on the history of the "Si -ox" indians. It took me a second to realize what in the hell she was talking about. God help our children.

Personally I don't see why any of it would be considered offensive. They've been called "red men" for as long as I've been alive, and only recently, in this "touchy, feely, everybody gets a trophy" world did they seem to become vocal over it. Could be a case of, "How dare those white devils call you this? You should be upset!!" 50 to 1, it started out with a lawyer.
It is a case of "life has become too easy and they have nothing better to do"

MY response to that is SO!

Why is it forbidden to make any reference to skin color?

It would have to be a hockey team.

I think the OP is trying to see who here have fallen for the PC crap and who haven't.

Since moving to Mexico I am amazed at how they change the pronunciation of words.

I figure I will go with how the owner of the name or the person calls themselves.

For example they sell Chevrolet's here. That is let at the end and not lay like the French say it.

When it is used as the defining factor or as one of the defining factors - it is not acceptable.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

Defining factor of what? It is a team name, and a proud one at that.

Where did this rule come from?

I have no doubt that in Mexico they indeed are Chevro-"lets". Around here we just call them "bombs". We also call chevy trucks "tuna boats".
