They are just looking for money, in my opinion. Which Nation is yelling the loudest? Are they a wealthier Nation, like the Oneidas who have opened Casinos, hotels, etc, or are they a poor Nation, like the Onondagas, who like to sit around and be jealous of everything the Oneidas worked hard for and built?
It is an obvious difference that I see. If you do not see it - or if you opt not to see it - that is your right.

I asked you why. Can you answer to me why it is offensive? If it is so obvious, it shouldn't be that difficult to explain to my why.

If a bunch of white people got together and agreed that "kike" wasn't racist, I'd say "Thanks, but your opinion is uninformed, irrelevant and dismissed."

because its an obvious reference to skin color and the defining nature of skin color.

More appropriately...SOME mejicans are of Azteca descent...but there was no mejico. Most mejicans are a bi-product of Spanish conquest of the natives.

    Shocking...right? Those bastards!!!!

So? Like I said, calling me white doesn't bother me. Calling someone black if they are black doesn't bother them.

Why do the Native Americans get to be bothered by this? Because someone told them they should. That's why. Pathetic attempt at a money grab.

Most Indians would say 'none'. The handful that find the Redskins nickname offensive would say (have said) ALL of them and their plan is to sue everyone until they are changed.

'Merging"...that sounds so much more sanitary than 'conquered'.

There was both conquering, and merging.

For example, during the destruction of the Aztec capital, there were more native Mexicans in Cortez's army than there were Spaniards. Likewise, after the defeat of the Aztecs alot of their former vassal tribes were merged. Some probably more willingly than others.

Whether a term is a slur or not should be dependent on whether it is being used as such. Not on what any one group thinks currently. If someone went and made a team called Crackers and did so because they like cracking heads I sure has heck wouldn't get offended. If someone made the team name Crackers just to take a shot at whites in a degrading term then yes, I'd find it offensive.

We research history for two reasons. One is to just simply know. We are curious creatures that simply like to know everything that we can. Second is to not repeat past mistakes. Unfortunately that second part there is often ignored and is instead used to place blame and condemnation on groups of people. As such it overrides any type of intelligent thought and progress.

PS: The answer to the poll question for me is "None".
