I had been curious in a macabre kind of way but never really wanted to see a beheading. I'm not much for gory movies either though.

My childhood friend emailed me an untitled video of the Nick Berg decapitation. I don't know why he did it but it started a fight, which ended our friendship. I was caught off guard and absolutely mortified by it. And it kind of made me hate my friend for making me see it.

The point is, do we encourage this behavior by allowing our sense of morbid curiosity to take over and watch them? I know nobody wants to see bodies mangled in a gruesome car accident, but if we drive by one, we can't seem to help the urge to rubberneck for a view.

I haven't seen any of the recent beheadings of Americans by ISIS, nor do I wish too. And though I wouldn't judge anyone who did, is it a smart thing to do either for yourself psychologically or for the terror it's meant to instill? Or does it not really matter and would happen anyway?

Why you shouldn't click on nude celebrity photos or 'beheading porn' - LA Times

Seen one? Nothing different the next time around. So why watch another?

Glad the UK government took the brave step of making viewing or owning these vids a criminal offense. Hope others in Europe will follow.

What an absurd thing to do.

I agree with what's said at the link. We need to ignore terrorist propaganda and drive those terrorists off of this planet.

Eventually we will put those people out of business.

We can't ever get completely rid of an ideology, because it lives in the minds of people. But we can make certain groups regret their repulsive acts.

Why would anyone WANT to see it?

I get why people in journalism, military and government would NEED to see it - but I as a regular old gal don't WANT to see it. Why in the hell would I? It's not some Hollywood horror flick that's poorly scripted in which no one ACTUALLY gets killed.

And seeing nude pics / porn of people who didn't want to be seen that way? Why in the hell would I want to?

This is exactly what I have thought, eventually some of those people will wish that they could put those heads back on and live a normal life. The rest of them we need to terminate with extreme prejudice.

If they were limited to just a few beheadings, I'd actually ignore them. It would be worse to them than if we killed them, which they half ass want.

But because they recruit multitudes, mass murder and want to screw up the whole world, they got to go.

I think that is a ridiculous move (though I have not seen the videos - nor do I wish to).

Free speech and freedom of the press.

This isn't kiddy porn...this is a form of execution. A horror that the public should be aware of.

What's next?

Holocaust pictures become illegal? Fatal car wrecks? Burning books?

I think it is absolutely pathetic to make it illegal to own a piece of major news footage.

If you want big brother to control everything...fine.

But not in my country, thank you.

The one I saw was kind of surreal more than anything else.

He didn't flinch, scream, or even really bleed all that much. He just kind of rolled around a little bit like a fish out of water, with his severed neck muscles convulsing like he was trying to breathe or swallow.

Needless to say, it left an impression. *shudder*

I totally agree, anyone who's part of or supports ISIS needs to pay the ultimate price.

Has nothing to do with opinion.

It is seen by the UK authorities as terrorist material/ terrorist properganda and therefor spreading it or owning it is a punishable offense.

that you find it absurd, only shows how right it is.

So whats next? Viewing violent movies will be a crime too?

Censorship doesnt stop crime.

100% agree. There are certain things I don't want to see or even imagine, and what is seen stays with you, no matter how much you try to forget.

I can't find anything that confirms what you're stating here. Could you share your source for this information?

Sky News and BBC News.

They broadcasted statements by Scotland yard, I watched that on TV, not the internet.

Well, I'm afraid you're mistaken in your interpretation of what Scotland Yard actually said.

'We would like to remind the public that viewing, downloading or disseminating extremist material within the UK may constitute an offence under terrorism legislation.'

Note the bolded part.

This does not mean that everyone who views the video will be prosecuted as you implied.

I started to watch one once, but stopped. Felt pointless and like I was caving into the terrorist's desires. Besides, you don't really have to watch one to know it happens and the significance of it.

Is it possible that they actually do it more for their own audience than us? So that they can cower their people into obedience and/or impress them with their devotion?

They do it apparently for recruiting purposes also, but they are addressed to us and Britain. I wish I had never seen one but that genie is out of the bottle. It's an extremely disturbing and unnatural image, though literally, probably, not as harsh as suffering a slow death from cancer or organ failure.
