Should the Kurds be Granted an Independent State?

Many Kurds for a very long time have been fighting for a independent Kurdistan. Now there may be some controversy with the exact borders of a "Kurdistan", do you think in general the Kurds should have a state of their own?

Probably so; I believe I've read somewhere that Erdogan is now supportive of that situation.

100% yes. It should have happened immediately when we took down Iraq.

If the majority of a region desires to be an independent nation, no one has the right to hinder their independence, as a general principle. Kurdistan is no exception.

I've traveled all over Kurdistan and remain a strenuous supporter of the Kurdish people and fully endorse their aspirations for statehood.

I wouldn't go that for, but in this case I think the arguments for independence have enormous merit. It just needs to be conducted very carefully.

There are a couple of exceptions (the confederacy being perhaps the most obvious), but under what circumstances do you believe a region that desires it should be denied independence?

Agreed. And they should be allowed to ally with Russia and Iran and Syria, because Iraq and Turkey both tried to stab them in the back. They could do an oil pipeline through Syria and bypass Turkey. Of course, these are the things that would be good for Kurds that the USA Big Energy/petrodollar lobby will not allow to happen.

I think it depends on what they are seceding/seeking independence over. I don't think the majority has the right to bring the minority into an autocracy for example, the Confederacy is also a good example of secession for a terrible cause, sometimes simple utilitarian policy considerations need to be considered. Also we wouldn't set the precedent of any municipality or county that wanted to to secede to do so it would become anarchic. I'm sure there are other reasons as well.
