Oh, I see. These devilishly clever jihadists are making a gambit, just hoping we stupid reactionaries will accept it, and play right into their hands. Since you are obviously more intelligent, what would you suggest? Just letting them consolidate their gains, maybe, and then possibly take over even more of Iraq and Syria? You sound like you don't you want to see the U.S. attack Muslim jihadists--and I wonder why.

Does the US face an attack from ISIS, and if so why?

I think we DO-they wont play nice when they are being defeated in Iraq, and tragically I expect we WILL experience a major attack. I think we should never have pulled out of Iraq and allowed this movement of evil to threaten the USA. The war on terror is not over, and we must remain vigilant.

Yes, because ISIS recognizes that the USA is a major threat to it's survival.

The USA needs to wipe that organization out before it does some serious damage to the USA.

Of course it is possible. Our intelligence agencies seem no 'smarter' than they were in the past, so who knows how much get's by them. We have easy access into the country through the southern border, where 'Homeland Security' isn't looking. They have a desire to kill Americans. So it could happen.

If so it will be a big city. I do not live in a big city, so 1) I am not worried and 2) to be honest we probably need it for the citizens to wake up and stand up to their government, kick out the idiots and get them focused on crap that matters.

Yep. 9/11 worked pretty damn well for Al Qaeda, didn't it? A trillion US dollars vaporized, and AQ with more members and better recruiting.
Many Trump supporters have lots of problems, and those deplorables are bringing those problems to us. They’re racists. They’re misogynists. They’re islamophobic. They're xenophobes and homophobes. And some, I assume, are good people.

Depends on how stupid they are. If there is a second 9/11 or something similar, I think there are going to be a lot of very dead Muslims guilty and innocent alike. Scorched earth most likely. Obama will have NO choice in the matter because it will be a tidal wave of anger bearing down on the white house that no one would risk going against for fear of drowning.

All of our military interventions have virtually guaranteed a future attack by ISIS against us. It doesnt matter how many terrorists we kill, there will be more simply because killing them isnt the answer, all it does is further antagonize people and make them hate us, therefore more terrorists are recruited into their ranks. James Foley was simply the first and as long as we keep doing the same things over and over then the so-called war on terror will never end.

If the US truly wants to stop terror attacks against its own citizens then they have to adopt a non-interventionist foreign policy. Other people dont hate us because of our freedoms- thats bull**** neocon propaganda, they hate us because we meddle in other countries. We need to stop minding other people's business. We create our own Frankenstein monsters- and Americans are dying for nothing because of it.

we can endure the casualties. for every hostage that ISIS murders, launch ten air strikes in retaliation.

It wont just be hostages, it could be bombs and direct terror attacks in the future. Americans will keep dying for nothing. Is that the kind of world you want?

isis won't be able to move above ground if we unleash our drones and undertake a 24/7 aerial bombardment campaign.

How many members "Al Qaeda" has depends entirely on how you define "Al Qaeda." And it is has been unwillingness of the U.S. and the rest of the Western powers to wage serious war against Islamic jihadists, ever since they first showed up in modern form in Iran in 1979, that has made jihadism attractive. To the extent it looks like it's gaining victories over the unbelievers, it attracts more Muslims.

I think the U.S. has made a big mistake in letting the Khomeinist regime in Teheran survive for 35 years now. It is the crowning achievement of Islamic jihad. That regime and its terrorist proxies have murdered thousands of American civilians and servicemen around the world during that time. Just in Iraq, a network of terrorist cells, using antitank mines and other modern weapons that Iranian Pasdaran operatives had supplied them and trained them how to use, murdered at least 500 U.S. servicemen and wounded many times more.

The U.S. has all along had very good reasons to put paid to the Teheran regime. And it has always had more than enough military force not just to have done that, but to have made the defeat decisive and humiliating. If I doubt the jihadist movement ever would have gained the following it has if its leading light had been shown up, to use Bin Laden's term, as a "weak horse." If the damned Americans could crush the world's most prestigious Islamist regime so easily, once they decided to go all out, they would have to wonder, what could they do to us, if they ever took the gloves off?

Pulling your punches, settling for pinpricks, and nicely calibrating every response to spare civilians strikes us as humane and civilized. But to the sort of jihadist savage that thinks nothing of beheading a defenseless person while recording the process, it is only a sign of decadent weakness. These Islamic supremacist fanatics are dead serious about advancing their way of life and imposing it--violently--on the rest of the world. And we in the West had better get serious about defeating them--permanently. They and the people who are inclined to support them need to be shown how horrific the cost of waging jihad on a much more powerful opponent can be.
