List of killings by law enforcement officers in the United States

List of killings by law enforcement officers in the United States prior to 2009 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Take some time to follow the 2014 links and numbers as well.

"This is an incomplete list that may never be able to satisfy particular standards for completeness. You can help by expanding it with entries that are reliably sourced. This is a list of people killed by nonmilitary law enforcement officers occurring before 2009, whether in the line of duty or not, and regardless of reason or method. Inclusion in the list implies neither wrongdoing nor justification on the part of the person killed or the officer involved. The listing merely documents the occurrence of a death. Killings are arranged by date of incident which caused death. Different death dates are, if possible, noted in the description.
The lists below are incomplete, as the annual average number of justifiable homicides committed by law enforcement alone is estimated to be near 400.[1]
For lists of killings from other years, see List of killings by law enforcement officers in the United States."

Has militarization of USA police increased this number?

Do more of the deaths seem unjustified?

Do you approve of the militarization of USA police?

    Do the police seem trigger-happy?

Why are there so few deaths by Law Enforcement Officers in England?

If you click on the monthly links at WIKI, you will get some short narratives on many of the shootings. Interesting reading and as a retrospective reveals a large number of shoots that never should have happened. My point being to peruse the WIKI link to review the data. There is too much data and not organized in a manner that could be compressed into one post. Thank you.

So even if they're completely justified and done in the line of duty they belong on this list of shame. All cops should just quit now.

Another good site for these deaths.

    exactly

why the hell should they put their life on the line to be ridiculed and shamed for having had to use their weapon?

one of my fathers friends was a county deputy....just a regular guy doing a regular job

in 32 years on the force, he had to draw his weapon 2x

only once did he use it, and it haunted him his whole career

not because it was a bad shoot....but because he had taken a life

maybe some of you should put on a uniform....and strap on a gun

spend a few months out on the streets....dealing with the real everyday world

cops are people....yes...sometimes they will make mistakes (anyone that thinks otherwise is an idiot)

but most are very special people trying to do a really hard job....and get home to their families at night

think about that before you start putting out KILL lists of cops doing their damn duty

I have never quite understood why a police force might need a tank.

Don't you think that might be overkill?

One would hope that, where citizens were killed because the police were in a hurry and impatient to get it over with, by mistake or for fun, the officers would be in jail
    for ever.

you know what.....that is actually a great idea

with all the **** being written about our law enforcement agencies lately...who would blame them

let them walk off the jobs for say 2-3 weeks

i would be fine with it.....i can protect my own

maybe, just maybe a little more respect would be coming their way after that

how much damage can the gangs, and criminals do when they know they have a few weeks of "free time"

wanna bet that those who are berating them now would be praying for them to get back on the job then

i kinda like this idea of mine....
