Heck, why not have cameras at the business end of each firearm as well.

Like those laser or flashlight things added under the barrel, they would get a camera instead.

Just think, preventing one or two major lawsuits would easily pay for the equipment(per city).

An additional option I don't see in these conversations is that idea of real time remote monitoring of the officer for support and oversight.

Imagine a command center with officers watching the officers, and stepping in with advice, information, or backup when appropriate. It wouldn't necessarily be very expensive, as at any given moment few would need more than passive monitoring.

Only if all suspects must wear them as well. Why should the word of the arrested count without video back-up but not the word of the arresting officer?

Only if you're going to force all people everywhere to wear them. I trust the police a lot more than I trust 99% of the population.

    Uniform police officers? YES.

Well officers are in a position of trust and you have some douche-bags who pad their reports like this guy.

When cops falsify reports and lie it becomes extra sinister, everyone knows crooks lie. Most people think cops wouldn't. So we need extra measures of security. The burden of proving crap needs to fall on the cops and their word isn't enough. Average Joe doesn't go around falsely imprisoning people. A cop may.

Definitely. I heard they actually tend to exonerate the officer most of the time.

That's true. Cops wearing cameras tends to protect the cops more than anyone else.
