You're projecting. Biden might be your buddy, but he's not mine.

It just happened to be in back of shot, with Bush in the foreground.

    1. I didn't vote in the poll, because I don't think the situation is uncomplicated enough for a simple yes/no answer. As I said in post #54 of this thread:

    2. Nothing's being "thrown out," since the poll doesn't make Mitt Romney retroactively president.
    3. I don't think most of us were particularly in love with Obamacare -- in the long run, probably better than the status quo, but it falls far short of most of us would want regarding health care reform.

I see most liberals who aren't huge fans of Obama would grade him anywhere from a 4 to 6 out of 10, whereas most conservatives would grade him anywhere from a 0 to a 0.5 out of 10.

Well, how would you grade it? If you don't mind me asking...

Probably about a 4-ish. As I've said numerous times, I'm certainly no fan of Obama's or his party; I just find the sole viable alternative at this point far worse.

Last few pres elections the GOP has presented crap as candidates.

Each and every one of them (excepting perhaps one or two who usually drop out early in the race) make me slightly nauseated.

The only ones in the GOP clown car of 2012 that I found even remotely palatable were Johnson, Huntsman and (kinda) Pawlenty, all of whom were drummed out pretty early in the nomination process.

The way the GOP selection process seems to work is, you get a bunch of candidates running, with some people liking one or the other, then after a few months or so the ones people actually like start dropping out, and you end up with the candidates no one really likes but which some people are willing to force themselves to stomach for the good of the party.

Then a good percentage of the voters try to do the same, but there are never enough because if you have to swallow your gorge before you vote it's going to turn some people off.

    Or something like that.

The 2012 process was weird in that Romney entered as the putative favorite and left as the nominee, but damn if there wasn't a new flavor of the month cropping up every so often because Republicans -- or at least the more conservative wing of the party -- wanted nothing to do with Mitt Romney. Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Michelle Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, hell, even Donald Trump was at one point at least somewhat seriously considered. However, the only one who stood any sort of chance of actually beating Obama in a general election was Romney, at least before he smeared half the electorate and the Republicans' we-know-we're-right polling metrics turned out to be completely wrong (which probably led to a serious mis-allocation of resources late in the campaign).

The common meme among conservatives is "conservatives stayed home rather than vote for Mitt Romney," which sounds neat in theory, except that the 2012 election had a pretty high voter turnout which led to Romney having the fifth-highest popular vote total ever. I highly doubt enough Real Conservatives stayed home to offset the millions of independent voters who would have fled from Newt Gingrich like the denizens of Tokyo every time Godzilla shows up.
