Nobody is perfect and people have to be judged within the context of the times. Also, she was not alone in complaining about the enfranchisement of more men while women were still powerless: "Believing that men should not be given the right to vote without women also being granted the franchise, Sojourner Truth, a former slave and feminist, affiliated herself with Stanton and Anthony's organization."

"Despite her opposition to giving African-American men the right to vote without enfranchising all women and the derogatory language she had resorted to in expressing this opposition, Stanton had no objection to interracial marriage and wrote a congratulatory letter to Frederick Douglass upon his marriage to Helen Pitts, a white woman, in 1884.

Certainly, but that saying is also used in a self-serving manner. If we were also to take that a bit more seriously, we would be able to acknowledge that she and Anthony were politically inept for most of their careers, burning bridges without the slightest care of it being unnecessary.

No, she was not alone. It remained a popular view with many suffragists (largely middle to upper middle class anglo-saxon women) up until they earned the right to vote. It also caused a great deal of unnecessary damage to the cause for decades.

That being said, I still endorse Anthony being put on currency, because not only is it popular, but it is fairly safe, regardless of my misgivings.

Wait this is about putting a woman on the 1 dollar bill? I thought we would just make a new bill (3 dollars or something) with a woman on it.

In that case, no, George Washington will stay forever and ever. I don't give a **** what people say, not what the treasury says, or any other part of the govt. I will take down whoever makes the decision to remove Washington from the dollar myself if it came to that.

Some nations have printed different designs of the same bill denomination. Would you settle for that?

Sure, I thought this was a complete removal of mister Washington, which is a no-no. I'm tired of this EVERYTHING HAS TO BE EQUAL kind of thinking people are having right now.

People are given positions of respect based on WHAT THEY DID.

And Washington deserves his place on the one dollar bill for WHAT HE DID.

You shouldn't do something for someone just because they are a woman or a homosexual etc. You should do something because they EARNED IT. The woman is going to have to be as legendary as Margaret Thatcher if she would be considered to be alongside Washington.

Tammy was a preacher because she said she was, like a fiat minister. She promoted great "confidence " that if you sent money, it would do mysterious things, the Lord's work was implied. The gov't wants you to give them money and they will do mysterious things, the "Lord's Work," like humantarian bombing, oxymoron. It's really pretty simple and I don't see how any one besides Tammy would even be considered. Also, if you give money to Tammy or the gov't it just evaporates and you are left holding an empty bag.
You put way too much thought into Tammy Faye Baker.
