Do You Think It's Ironic that the Republicans chose to sue Obama over ACA?[W:109]

Is it ironic that Republicans chose to sue Obama over the ACA?

Perhaps not - perhaps, however, it will assist in narrowing the apparently widely divergent opinions on what and what is not an executive power under the US Constitution. In that sense, it will assist the GOP, the Democrats, and the public at large.

Maybe so, but right now, from what I know about this, I don't believe that it will.

I see this as a total waste of time and money which will accomplish nothing.

Re: Do You Think It's Ironic that the Republicans chose to sue Obama over ACA?

That is transparent nonsense - I won't comment on your ability to recognize or acknowledge it as such.

In other words, you have nothing to support your assertion. Carry on and have a good day. And yes, I know, you'll claim victory now in the most unflattering of ways.

You know what Canada, here in the USA what you have to say does not matter. You have a nice day too.

Re: Do You Think It's Ironic that the Republicans chose to sue Obama over ACA?

Put it this way

If the people who support those provisions supported them because they wanted to exercise control of their urges, then delaying would be reinforcement.

But do you really believe that the people who support those provision do so because they wanted them to be delayed? Wouldn't just not passing them be just as effective in making them wait?

The answer is obvious, and since those people do not want to wait, having to control their urge (to see those policies implemented) is not reinforcement. It is a lack of reinforcement.

That is probably right. It would not be a good enough reason to forbid such games, however, on the face of it.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't help be struck by the irony that the Republican's should chose the issue of the President 'delaying' portions of the ACA as the basis for their civil law suit

Hmm, clearly my 'add a poll' ability seems somewhat impaired. I intended to add a Yes/No question

In today's political climate I don't see it as ironic at all. Today's politics seems less about ideology and more about grasping at whatever straws the other side doesn't have.

Re: Do You Think It's Ironic that the Republicans chose to sue Obama over ACA?

Keep them hungry and you continue to possess the means to reward for good behavior. That is elementary training procedure.

Wait a minute, are you trying to suggest that these employers keeping their money, ie not being dinged if they don't obey ACA rules, is akin to being "hungry". Seriously? He gave them a reward they were asking for and never let them even miss a meal. Y'all are really bizarre.

Re: Do You Think It's Ironic that the Republicans chose to sue Obama over ACA?

Yep, it's so bizarre.

I look forward to the Republicans winning the suit, and which would mean all those businesses back pay with interest and penalty, the original penalty they would've paid. I with complete malice in my heart, hope they sue, hope it goes to court, and hope they win. It'll cost business owners a fortune and they'll dump the GOP.

It's not just you but it's also not the point.
ACA is a Law.
ACA is a bad Law.
ACA is a bad Law whose damage was delayed by an unconstitutional Executive Action.
ACA is a bad Law which would have had a greater degree of being exposed as a bad Law and repealed had it not been so often changed by someone other than the people empowered to change it.

I think I can help you here, Thor.
On the one hand Obama changed a Law (bad juju) and on the other hand he won't enforce them (immigration law), which btw, he made worse with another one of his Executive actions.
That Executive stuff just ain't working out well for the Country with this guy.

He's deported more people than anyone before him.

This is simply partisan politics and fodder for GOP fundraising.

As if Bush didn't use EOs to change laws.

Re: Do You Think It's Ironic that the Republicans chose to sue Obama over ACA?

I didn't know there were other suits on this same point of law.

I couldn't find any, but i may not be looking in the right places.

What were the specifics and what were the rulings on these cases?

I was thinking of the case that went to the Supreme Court regarding Obama's declaration that the Senate was in recess and he could make recess appointments to the labour relations board. The Supreme Court narrowed the executive's power to make such appointments.

And I respect your point of view even if you don't respect mine. Funny how it's only American liberals who are afraid of opinion outside of their xenophobic circle.

In any event, hope you're having a fun day too.

Not exactly, the quandry was a decision as to whether the Senate was really in recess. It didn't change anything about the executive's power, it simply granted legitimacy to a trick the Senate was using to pretend the Senate was not in recess.

It would help if you knew what you were talking about.

He's calling turning 'em around at the border as deportations.
The S.C. already smacked him for his lawlessness.
Cite the laws Bush changed and we can discuss them.
Face it. Honest Liberals are nervous about what the King is doing.

Liar... you opened the post being responded to with a huge indication that you don't respect the point of view or the person.

I do know what I'm talking about - the ruling of the Supreme Court was that the President did not have the power or the authority to declare the Senate in recess. That was a narrowing of the President's perceived power. So sorry you don't understand law and procedure enough to appreciate it.

Perhaps you'd be well served to know what you're referring to before you toss out backhanded criticism so ignorantly.

Again, your utter ignorance of the discussion puts you in the position of looking foolish. Carleen responded to a comment I directed in response to a different poster, Sangha. I've had no discussion with Carleen other than to thank her for her rude post to me.

Wanna try for strike three?

Oh, please, you're playing with semantics and trying to pretend the Senate was playing games about being in recess. You full of bs and half truths.

I never mentioned who were speaking to, and your indignation doesn't change that the post she was referring shows you as being utterly disrespectful regardless of your claims to the contrary.

I'll accept your apology, such as it is, knowing how difficult it is for you to admit being wrong.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court issued a unanimous rebuke to President Obama on Thursday, saying he had overreached in issuing recess appointments during brief breaks in the Senate’s work. - NYT 6/26/2014

Your posts are ridiculously dishonest. If you weren't so quick to need to condemn, you'd know that I responded directly to Carleen to her direct post to me saying that I respect her opinion even if she doesn't respect mine.

Lol. That's the basis of the suit? Ironic, yes. Surprising, no. Maybe I'm reading it wrong and it pains me to say it, but to me it seems the mission of the GOP is not to stand on principle but to oppose President Obama in any and every way possible, in this case demanding by force of law that Obamacare be fully implemented without delay. And primarily because of tribalism; he's not one of us, has no business being President and we must make sure he fails.

But by suing they are demanding that Obama implement obamacare, which is somthing they opposed.
