Freedom is good but its only input among many in life and its value is relative to those other inputs in achieving what one wants to achieve.
For the vast majority of Americans, freedom is a goal, as well as a means to achieve other goals. For many people, it's the main goal.

I agree that many Americans feel this way

What about you? Do you see it as a goal in itself, a way of achieving goals, both, or neither?

Freedom is a useful tool in achieving my goals, but so is money, influence, friends, and any other resource I can call on

Not in any pure sense, no

I just want to do what I want to do and any activity has requirements

Their are diffrent definition of economic freedom. Some can see it as the right to make economic direction and actions some can see it's the ability to make economic direction and actions.

For example a country with bad public school and expensive and good private school and also good but costly university, children have so diffrent ability to pursue a academic career and archieve their place in the market economy. This based on a factor they can't control the parents they are borned with,

That taxes can therefor been seen as not taking away peoples freedom but being a away for insuring peoples freedom.

Also this doesn't mean that you reject the market economy but instead just realise it's not perfect and that other form of human interactions is also needed.

I'm not real crazy about your choices. The government owns a lot of things... does that mean there's a lot of economic freedom because of it? Plantation-holders owned slaves. Was that a sign of economic freedom, as well?
