That it can be better to pay more in taxes so everything child has agood start in life so that they can achieve their place in society on their own meritsinstead of being depent on being lucky and get the right parents.
Also if you pay taxes for good healthcare and education today forchildren, they can pay taxes for good healtchare and nursing homes for you then you get old.

For me economic freedom is freedom from worry that money will run short between paychecks.

Ultimately, that's what really matters. Having enough to eat, having reasonable shelter, etc. If you cannot have that, then the idea of freedom is a useless theory.

This thread isn't about the outcomes of policies.
If you expect people to be rational, you aren't being rational.

Would you say that freedom is being happy, rather than being allowed to pursue happiness?

    It's neither.

Economic freedom is the right to distribute and consume without impinging on others or being impinged upon.

I would say that freedom to pursue happiness is pretty much useless if there is no practical way to pursue it.

I amended my statement when I realized that I misread your question on the first read (making dinner, half paying attention)

Freedom is good but its only input among many in life and its value is relative to those other inputs in achieving what one wants to achieve.
