The projection is strong with the left on this issue. Being fearful of weapons, they project fear onto those who have demonstrated the capability to competently employ them.

I don't fear weapons at all. I own plenty of them and know how to shoot them. But to teach children how to shoot guns at school is retarded. If my school did that I would withdraw my child from school. Teaching children to use firearms should be entirely up to the parents.

So what you are saying is that the people who buy tons of weapons and stock up on ammunition are not doing so because they are afraid in order to feel more safe about some made up boogie man?
Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?

Not really. I learned how to properly shoot a rifle at high school, and continued that education at college. I can't think of any instances of it being anything other than useful instruction.

If my school did that I would withdraw my child from school. Teaching children to use firearms should be entirely up to the parents.
but teaching them about sex and relationships, hey, that we can trust Big Daddy Government on. Because that's so much less complicated and difficult than reinforcing the 4 (5) basic safety rules.

So what you are saying is that the people who buy tons of weapons and stock up on ammunition are not doing so because they are afraid in order to feel more safe about some made up boogie man?
straw man. we are discussing whether or not we should teach how to properly handle and employ basic firearms in school.

As for me, I plan to purchase (as you put it) "plenty" of guns and ammo because I like guns.

NO! Of course we should not train children to be "ready to shoot some hooded black man in the head at moments notice". Never! How horrible!

They should aim for the chest, it's a bigger target.

Those are things I'd consider key life skills, while gun handling is not.

As something extra curricular then that's fine (like how schools might offer after-school martial arts class/theatre/wrestling or something) but I don't agree it should be part of any curriculum/lessons.

I shot on a varsity college Shotgun team in the early 80s and the National Collegiate Skeet and Trap championships had more schools than say Gymnastics, Rowing, fencing and water polo. I think trap (the most popular) had several hundred competitors and when I took second in the international trap version, it was in a field of at least 250 shooters.
It is fine to have an archery team, a trap shooting team, a fencing team or even a sharp shooting team (like the olympic sport of sharp shooting). But all of those teams/sports have to be purely voluntary and not able to stop a student from passing to the next grade.

Gun handeling is a key life skill. Like CPR, you won't need it until you *need* it.

Like knowing how to treat jellyfish stings. You won't need it until you *need* it.

    Key life skill? No.
