As someone said in the comments, it's just biology. It's entirely expected that women will prefer men that are taller, have wider shoulders, smaller hips, a muscular build and of course a bigger penis. Just as it is entirely expected men will prefer wider hips and bigger breasts. Does that mean any of this is universal? Of course not, but it is to be expected. I think she was just being honest in a joking manner and all the small dick/average size dudes got offended. Pretty much that was expected too.

I don't understand what there was to apologize for. What's wrong with rich and well-hung? Does it make the poor with tiny liitle dicks insecure? Tough ****. Life ain't fair.

I'm already gearing up for Finger Vote 2014.

Just for reference, means my post was a giant steaming pile of sarcasm.

What she said was the equivalent of a man saying he would only date women
with a big trust fund and big, natural boobs (or tits).

I don't know about Australia, but saying something that sexist in the US would
probably be enough to end a man's political career. A woman might get some
    affirmative action slack.

There's obviously the gender hypocrisy angle. But more than that, it's not that politicians aren't human, but that they so often flaunt their humanity after preaching such crap as 'family values' and the like. Double standards are liable to cause offence.

Is it okay to be this revealing and honest as a politician or not politically correct? It skates the line of acceptable behavior but doesn't seem worthy of too much fuss?
If a male politician said something similar like "my ideal woman is blonde, busty and young" I would not have a problem.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

It is inappropriate in any public setting other than a comedy factory or a bar... unless she was referring to Dali, or something.

Because it is disrespectful inappropriate behaviour on a morning show, that's why.

Agreed. I don't think "offensive" is the right word, as some here have used, but I am struck by the crassness of the remark from someone in such an esteemed position as senator.

The remark shows a momentary lack of class and dignity unbecoming of her position, and she ought to be embarrassed.

No need to dig that deeply in to it, I think it's just a question of good manners.
