I am interested in how people get their information. *You can select multiple options.

Do you believe everything you read, listen to, or see from your preferred sources of media? Let me summarize my process a little bit.

For Breaking News I use a great website and even better app properly named, “Breaking News.” They are a great group of editors and seasoned news reporters and an off-shoot startup from NBC. If that alienates you than by all means don’t use it, but you’ll be left out. I get instant notifications on my phone from specific issues I care about from International Wars to news about corporate mergers. The instant they happen. No other News app works this good! Plus they track official accounts of these things on social media as well. The only downside to Breaking News is that populist stories and talking head outrages are not often reported. Unless the talking heads themselves break the news story. This however, is also a blessing because it’s a no-nonsense version of The Drudge Report.

That’s the reason why I often use what I like to call the timeline methodology to track news events. If I see stories about immigration popping up in my news feed on social media or even the breaking news app, I immediately try to track down the origin of the story. Ironically 100% of the time, the origin is a mainstream media source! Despite anti-MSM critics.

What are my Mainstream Media Sources? NBC, ABC, CBS, Local Newspapers, AP, CNN, BBC, and Fox News. I also use various tech news sites and Yahoo for my technology/corporate/economic news. Once I find the origin of the story I check which other sources followed up on it or linked to it. This is quite easy to do and can be done within half an hour of hard research.

What CT Sources do I use? The Daily Paul, AboveTopSecret, The DailySheeple, Infowars, The Drudge Report, and Social Media like Twitter and Facebook posts.

If I see more stories and baseless claims about a certain topic like the economy crashing or the end of the world coming from the CT sources instead of the MSM (which is often). I usually end up talking about it here on the site or on my blog. That basically is all there is to my method.

Watch RT, CNBC, France24, BBC, AlJazeera, ZDF, ARD
Listen NPR, DLF, WDR5
Read NYT, WP, The Economist, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy Magazine
Do Fora and check things out, when they contradict patterns

I also listen to Z100 and WOR but that's purely for entertainment and hardly get any news out of them without hearing about it first from other sources.

Google News and don't indulge in conspiracy theories.

Do you have a good Far Eastern news link?

I generally don't read local stories from international places. So therefore I don't read the far eastern press. However, I would stay away from RT. Not sure if that is far eastern.

I use many of the same sources you do. For some reason I find myself getting most news from MSNBC, but I also draw from other sources. Local news I get from our ABC affiliate in NH and also the Boston channels. For national news I look to Fox or MSNBC, with some NPR and on occasion, CNN. I get my business news from Fox Business or Bloomberg. I like the BBC for international news.

I never pay attention to conspiracy theories.

I think it's telling how many people are NOT responding to this thread. I wonder why so many are afraid to participate.

I believe what the voices in my shop tell me.

Your topic is okay, OP, but the way you constructed your poll sucks big time. Every question is slanted. Unless you are a pollster, don't quit your day job. If you ARE a pollster, quit...now.

The only choice that even comes close to my position is the 5th one...and only part of it. "I only research issues I care about..." applies. "...use sources I agree with to make myself feel better" doesn't apply...and is a demeaning addition to the choice.

Heck, if you had just left that stupid poll off your thread, I might be interested in sharing my methods of receiving news.

If you think 'it is telling' I'd opine you are easily swayed.... it is yet another BS poll with rather limited boxes to check, but if it gives you a warm fuzzy to wonder why... then by all means continue on... :peace

Why specifically don't you like the poll itself? What are the slanted questions? I think it's pretty neutral. If you research topics you care about using a method similar to mine you could have easily checked that and contributed something constructive to the discussion instead of criticizing the entire thing!

Not really sure what I am easily swayed by...Care to elaborate?

Also there is nothing in the poll that restricts anything. If you have something to add or a new method, I believe I welcomed further discussion! That's the entire point. You don't even need to participate in the poll. You can kindly reply that none of those options apply to you and then explain how exactly you read the news. I just wonder why you didn't do that and chose to be rude instead.

You are easily swayed into a self deluding 'logic' loop that a lack of response means what you wish, not willing to consider you are less than savvy at polling.

The poll responses you list are another indicator you have a very restricted view of the issue. That you see a general discussion topic as being capable of being distilled into a few pre-programmed boxes shows a blinder mentality.

I lean like Mycroft in this (and SELDOM agree with him politically) research only what interests me, look at the various talking points to see the 'other guy's' POV. Then if it comes up I can respond.

Get out of the poll business and just put the question to the group, but don't draw too much from a lack of response- as topics go in here this is a big yawn... :peace

The biggest problem I have is the two-parters. Why did you have to combine "I research everything thoroughly..." with "...and question everything, etc."? What if I research everything, but DON'T question everything, etc.? Or, what if I only research issues I care about, but I use sources that I both agree with and don't agree with? I cannot select that choice.

The second biggest problem is the little snide addition to the choices, such as, "...to make myself feel better". That kind of crap doesn't belong in a serious poll.

And then, there's your last choice about your timeline method. Who cares?

Now...since the basis of your thread is the poll...that is, that's the first thing I look at...my displeasure with your poll questions just turned me off of the whole thread.

From left-to-right and one word at a time ;)

I like CNN and NPR. I use the CNN app a lot. I like MSNBC to some degree, but understand it is mostly liberal/democratic editorializing except on election nights.

I generally don't read local stories from international places. So therefore I don't read the far eastern press. However, I would stay away from RT. Not sure if that is far eastern.

Actually you are right. Rt is not Far Eastern. More the space between eu and China

I read the news in English, since my Spanish and Arabic are terrible.

From left-to-right and one word at a time ;)

FUN FACT: I was on a first-class flight from Chicago to Honolulu a ways back and I was seated next to a Japanese gentleman who was reading a book right-to-left, as apparently Japanese people do. I was only 17, and I had no idea they read like that. Apparently Arabic is also read from right to left.

The mainstream media rarely reports on anything that either applies to me or interests me, so I generaly ignore the news. I'm more interested in i****inglovescience.com and similer.

1. Honestly all polls are like that. Just because you didn't like any of the choices doesn't mean it's a bad poll. Show me a poll on here that isn't pre-programmed with the OP's opinionated selected answers?

2. If you actually read the whole thing you would notice that your method most aligns with options 1 and 7. Since I still don't know what sources you use. I cannot analyze whether or not you primarily use sources that you agree with

3. I am not in the poll business. This is my first poll in a while. I just wanted to know how people read the news. Some people made jokes about it and I didn't get all mad at them.

1. You could have had a better original response, such as explaining how exactly you do that.

2. You can! That's option seven pretty much! But since you didn't bother to read that far into it now your all mad.

3. I never said it was a serious poll. As I told notquiteright, people answered this thread in a joking manner and I didn't care. As long as there are enough good responses to balance it out.

4. If you didn't care, why are you making a big deal of it? No one forced you to answer or join in the discussion.

5. Maybe you should read entire threads/posts before jumping to conclusions, like who cares about the timeline method. I find it hard to believe that you research everything as you stated before. If you did, you would have read the whole thing and responded in a better way.
