Out of the cities I have visited, Buffalo, NY and the entirety of upstate New York in general. Out of the the cities I have not visited, I would have to say Detroit because it is a failed city. The best, Boston or New York City.

Detroit hands down. Highest poverty rate (over 40%) and maternity death rate triple the national average and higher than 3rd world countries like libya. If you've been to detroit in the past decade, it's pretty damn obvious too. Foreclosures everywhere. 50 kids per classroom. Highest murder and unsolved murder rate i think....maybe st louis is higher. There's just nothing desirable there and with an upper class college town just 40 miles away, really no point going there unless doing research on how a city with billionaire bridge owner can be so ghetto. In fact, i think detroit should just be shutdown

I just have to say I never once met anyone who was in awe because I lived in Chicago. And for sure never met someone who thought that I or my family was a bad ass due to livingthere. To me and most of the people I know we don't find any more badge of honor in being from Chicago than any other big city.
You kind of remind me of the folks who are from Texas who think everyone is impressed that they are from Texas. Most people don't really care.
Don't get me wrong I think it is great that you take pride in where you live. More people should. Just have not had the same experiences as you.

Well, maybe they were just in awe of me. Again maybe it's just me. Who do you know? Where you from? I remind a lot of people of a lot of people.

Not the same experience, eh? Anecdotes are funny that way...

You know, I voted Chicago, because the crime is just unbelievable there. I just don't understand -- people who live in Chicago seem to love Chicago. How can a city be that well loved, yet that steeped in crime?

The answer is incredibly simple. Segregation. The crime in the city of Chicago is quite isolated. Parts of the south side of the city have incredibly high crime rates and murder rates. Parts of the North Side of the city have crime rates and murder rates equivalent to suburbs. It is largely true of most major cities in the world. Go to Manhattan and you will likely see a lot of police but not much crime beyond the petty level crime like pick pockets. However, go to parts of Brooklyn and the Bronx and the crime rates will be incredible high (to be fair Brooklyn also has really nice areas with low crime rates as well). Same thing for LA and almost every big city in the country. Some poor areas with high crime rates and other areas that are wealthier with lower crime rates. It is the trade off you make to live in places where there is excitement. So the people saying Chicago is so bad either went to the worst areas of the city or have never been at all and are just criticizing it for partisan reasons. I hate Obama, but that doesn't mean I have to hate a city he happened to have lived in. That is just idiotic.

I wasn't given the power to determine who would prosper and who would wither. The city of Detroit withered because of the decisions they made. I just don't want to have to pay for it.

Do you agree with the GM bailout?

Do you agree with all the bank bailouts?

I guess the back and forth you and I are engaging in begs the question....."who must suffer the consequences of their own actions and who has the right to make egregious mistakes, not suffer the consequences of those mistakes and have others pay for those mistakes?

So that is what is really bothering you. Obama/GM. I thought we were talking about crimes.

I think we should stop sending aid (or at least cut down a LOT on the amount) to other countries and fix what's wrong HERE in our own country! We give all of these other countries money to help them with their infrastructure and everything else, while we ignore our own problems. Imagine all the problems we could fix with all of that money that we waste trying to buy friends!

Well I don't hate Obama and I still think Chicago is a war zone.

82 people shot in 84 hours? 14 dead? You can't brush numbers like that under the rug, by saying that it's you visited the wrong neighborhood, or that you hate the President.

But it is the wrong neighborhoods and it is a really big city. The places that is happening in are a 2 hour drive from some parts of the city. So yes, making that distinction is necessary!! Look at this link.

Crime in Chicagoland -- chicagotribune.com

The vast majority of murders are isolated to pockets of the city on the South and West Sides of the city. I grew up in the North Side of Chicago, and never felt unsafe. That is not an irrelevant distinction.

Los Angles is on the way to bankruptcy; so is San Francisco. 6 California cities have already gone bankrupt, the largest being Santa Barbara, I think.

Birmingham, AL went bankrupt; Detroit of course.

California, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York are all states that are heading toward ruin.

California has implemented, or is implementing, a "public retirement" program for people who do not have 401K's thru their work - it is simply a scheme to steal money from the lowest classes of society for the purpose of keeping the public worker pension system from collapsing - but, of course, the masses are completely ignorant of the fact that they are being ripped off.

That system will go national eventually - and when that can't save all the sinking ships, they will begin calling for FedGov bailouts; which means that even if you live in a responsible state - the parasites will eventually get into your wallet.

The one thing all of these places have in common is that they are hardcore democratic strongholds. Disgusting thieves who deserve their comeuppance.

The only thing all of these items have in common is that they are all impressions in your head.

You are operating from impressions, not facts. Try not to bore the rest of us with things that are in your head. You think these things are going on, then prove it! You might just find your impressions are wrong. It might help you sleep better at night.

I don't need to get out much to know more about USA than most Americans.

I am afraid that knowing more about USA than most Americans is a pretty low bar.

If you travelled much in Europe, Canada, Japan (and I presume China and Australia, where I have no direct experience), almost each country can boast superior infrastructure to that of the US and you would find almost all of them devoid of the abject poverty and violent crime that is so prevalent in the US (and I have been to every major city in this country and 45 states).

Sorry, but America no longer qualifies as a 1st world country; we have major issues. Its time for Americans to look in the mirror and see the fat, balding middle aged country that we have actually become rather than continue in this fantasy that we are still the high school stud that we once were.

If you honestly think America is not a first world country than I don't know what to tell you.
I have also been to quite a few areas in Europe as well as Canada Japan and South Korea and while yes they have some very nice places they also have some very crappy ones just like in the US. I have seen some horrible infrastructure in parts of Canada and Europe. Parts of South Korea and Japan look more third worldish than anywhere I have ever been in this country. And than to try and use China as an example. Have you never even seen a picture of rural China.

Also just look at the sheer size of this country vs many country's in Europe and else where. If this country had only as many miles of road to maintain as pretty much all those countries we could repave our roads yearly. The same goes for things like power grids and internet.
Thinking that this country is not first world is either blind hatred of this country or extreme ignorance.

Detroit is a horrible place.

I'm pretty sure that we are still considered a 1st world country, but we are certainly not number 1.

Gloat if it's fun for you to play, just don't piss us off or the wrath of Hell will come down on your worthless country.

Once a thriving city, now a shell of decay and decline.

Many of you Cons are a hoot: you don't know the first thing about debate and are footloose with facts.

In debate, if you make an assertion, and I challenge that assertion, it is YOUR job to support it. If you don't or can not, its an invalid assertion, which it now is.

Too many people on this board think they are debating when they post some fact they thought they heard or may have heard it when surfing political porn sites; they accept as fact and then post something that they believe is contributing to this board. When confronted, they can not back up their point.... because, it was wrong in the first place.

I could tell you were operating from impression with a reckless disregard for the truth when you suggested Santa Barbara was bankrupt. It is/was not. Though you did hedge your statement, it would have been a relatively easy thing to fact check before your posted... but you were too lazy or afraid your argument would break down. Stockton is the largest CA city to file bankruptcy. Moreover, Birmingham did NOT go bankrupt. The County that contains Birmingham went bankrupt (they are different entities). Face it, you did a poor job with your post.

Now that I blasted that part of your statement out of the water, the credibility of most your other assertions is very questionable.

Our courts work on debate theory. A plaintiff or prosecutor must prove his case. They do so by producing evidence to back up their assertions. When challenged, they either have to "double down" on the evidence, but it is their duty to find it and produce it; telling the defense to "google" the evidence is not producing it and will void the assertion. BTW, once the evidence is produced, it is fair game for the defense to attack the quality, relevance or jurisdiction of the evidence. Be prepared.

You sir, have not made your point and have thus far wasted everyone's time with your post. Again, it is YOUR job to produce the evidence to support your assertions. Perhaps you can learn from this "schooling" and pick up your game. I look forward to a higher integrity in your future posts.

Poor America!

Unfortunately, it is. OTH, we have the money, we just refuse to spend it on the right things; and others refuse to contribute to the cause of greatness.
