Out of the cities I have visited, Buffalo, NY and the entirety of upstate New York in general. Out of the the cities I have not visited, I would have to say Detroit because it is a failed city. The best, Boston or New York City.

Detroit hands down. Highest poverty rate (over 40%) and maternity death rate triple the national average and higher than 3rd world countries like libya. If you've been to detroit in the past decade, it's pretty damn obvious too. Foreclosures everywhere. 50 kids per classroom. Highest murder and unsolved murder rate i think....maybe st louis is higher. There's just nothing desirable there and with an upper class college town just 40 miles away, really no point going there unless doing research on how a city with billionaire bridge owner can be so ghetto. In fact, i think detroit should just be shutdown

You kind of remind me of the folks who are from Texas who think everyone is impressed that they are from Texas. Most people don't really care.
Don't get me wrong I think it is great that you take pride in where you live. More people should. Just have not had the same experiences as you.

Well, maybe they were just in awe of me. Again maybe it's just me. Who do you know? Where you from? I remind a lot of people of a lot of people.

Not the same experience, eh? Anecdotes are funny that way...

The answer is incredibly simple. Segregation. The crime in the city of Chicago is quite isolated. Parts of the south side of the city have incredibly high crime rates and murder rates. Parts of the North Side of the city have crime rates and murder rates equivalent to suburbs. It is largely true of most major cities in the world. Go to Manhattan and you will likely see a lot of police but not much crime beyond the petty level crime like pick pockets. However, go to parts of Brooklyn and the Bronx and the crime rates will be incredible high (to be fair Brooklyn also has really nice areas with low crime rates as well). Same thing for LA and almost every big city in the country. Some poor areas with high crime rates and other areas that are wealthier with lower crime rates. It is the trade off you make to live in places where there is excitement. So the people saying Chicago is so bad either went to the worst areas of the city or have never been at all and are just criticizing it for partisan reasons. I hate Obama, but that doesn't mean I have to hate a city he happened to have lived in. That is just idiotic.

Do you agree with the GM bailout?

Do you agree with all the bank bailouts?

I guess the back and forth you and I are engaging in begs the question....."who must suffer the consequences of their own actions and who has the right to make egregious mistakes, not suffer the consequences of those mistakes and have others pay for those mistakes?
So that is what is really bothering you. Obama/GM. I thought we were talking about crimes.

I think we should stop sending aid (or at least cut down a LOT on the amount) to other countries and fix what's wrong HERE in our own country! We give all of these other countries money to help them with their infrastructure and everything else, while we ignore our own problems. Imagine all the problems we could fix with all of that money that we waste trying to buy friends!

Well I don't hate Obama and I still think Chicago is a war zone.

82 people shot in 84 hours? 14 dead? You can't brush numbers like that under the rug, by saying that it's you visited the wrong neighborhood, or that you hate the President.

But it is the wrong neighborhoods and it is a really big city. The places that is happening in are a 2 hour drive from some parts of the city. So yes, making that distinction is necessary!! Look at this link.

    Crime in Chicagoland -- chicagotribune.com

The vast majority of murders are isolated to pockets of the city on the South and West Sides of the city. I grew up in the North Side of Chicago, and never felt unsafe. That is not an irrelevant distinction.
