Re: Is this Racist?

Forgive me for being lazy, and maybe this was already addressed in one of the previous 296 posts.

Have outhouses become a symbol for black people and/or the black population now? That's what would make this float racist. Caricature depictions like watermelon, or Buckwheat, yes, I get that. When did a portapotty become a racist symbol?

Yes outhouses are now a racist symbol, how could you not know this???? Duh

Re: Is this Racist?

Bush said many, many things that were many times more insulting than that.
Don't get me started on the gaffes he dropped on us in eight years.

Okay. I probably wouldn't want to hear them anyway.

I don't think it was racist at all.

What I object to is the automatic assumption - with hardly anything to back it up from the article - that "lefties" will think it's racist. Considering that the OP admitted that the whole point was to get a bunch of liberals to say it was so that he could play that card....it's a bait thread. When nobody did, he started throwing out other "typical lefty" argument strawmen, and ended up with a whole laundry list that had nothing to do with the article, or parade float it was about.

That's all it was - "Lets get liberals to look like idiots." Which unfortunately among some of our RW posters seems to be their whole thing, not intelligent discussion.

Just look at the poll results - 6 votes for it is racist. Clearly, liberals did not flock to call it racist.

Re: Is this Racist?

Yes, it's racist. Outhouses are typically associated with white Southern Americans and it's a negative stereotype against his white racial background.

So you think the OP was a bait post and agree that there is nothing racist about it?

Do you believe that no Democrats labeled that float as being "racist"?

Yes, it was a bait post, the float is not racist.

Probably at least a couple of the 6 votes for were on the liberal side. We have our insufferable idiots, too.

What I saw as racist were the exaggerated cartoon features on the effigy of the President on that float. It was reminiscent of the racist black faced cartoons of the 1930s and 40s.
It is well understood that the black help would have to continue to use a dry pit outhouse while "white only" bathrooms were becoming indoor plumbing during the Jim Crow south. A black man happy to have even an outhouse to use is not new to racist imagery... nor is this idea of an outhouse for Obama's Library new to the republicon party.

Obama Outhouse Featured at Montana GOP Convention

There was less laughter – although plenty of picture-taking – of an outhouse labeled “Obama Presidential Library” parked outside Missoula’s Hilton Garden Inn, where the convention took place.
Nothing on the outhouse indicated who was responsible for it, although it made an appearance in the Memorial Day parade in Corvallis in Ravalli County.

The outhouse was painted to look as though it had been riddled by bullets.

Inside, a fake birth certificate for Barack Hussein Obama made reference to the disproven controversy over the president’s origins. It was stamped “Bull––.” A graffito advised “For a Good Time call 800-Michelle (crossed out), Hillary (crossed out) and Pelosi (circled in red.)
The keynote speaker at this convention was none other than newt Gingrich.

.

I don't look at anything listed there as being "racist." Ignorant, yes, but not racist.

And they got one thing right - the birther BS was "Bull----"

I was talking about Democrats outside of DP.

Re: Is this Racist?

Too bad this wasn't a public poll. I'd like to know the names ot those who said it was racist

Re: Is this Racist?

In a statement, the Nebraska Democratic Party called the float one of the "worst shows of racism and disrespect for the presidency that Nebraska has ever seen,"

'Obama Presidential Library' float at Norfolk parade sparks controversy - Omaha.com: Nebraska

Well, good for them. I really don't care what they say. It was disrespectful, but not racist. The statement doesn't really change anything about the thread. Just very bad baiting.

The people at a level in the party to write releases are insufferable party-tards. And it's an election year, so all the hype gets pushed way overboard because if you're not shouting louder than the other guy nobody hears you (in the current climate anyway).

If the state's Democratic Party declared the float "racist" then the OP wasn't baiting any more than other polls on here would be considered baiting, especially when an organized group of one political party says something is (insert word here).

Re: Is this Racist?

It's extremely disrespectful and tasteless, but I wouldn't call it racist. Shouldn't have been in the parade, honestly. But I don't expect these people to be beyond this sort of nonsense, it's their calling card.

Re: Is this Racist?

Given who posted the thread, I think he's got an ulterior motive here. He's waiting for ONE person to say "yes," so he can go off on a half-cocked rant about how liberals are the Real Racists for "playing the race card" or something stupid. Look at his prior posts and tell me I'm wrong.

Or he could have pointed out that the Nebraska Democratic Party called it "racist" - which they did.

Re: Is this Racist?

The internet comments after the outhouse float picture and article are far more telling of what's happening in the USA today than the float itself .

Re: Is this Racist?

Did you not see the video. The lady specifically expressed her disgust that anyone would disparage a "black" president. Go back and watch it. What do you translate that to mean?

I said HERE. The question was asked of the forum.

Re: Is this Racist?

Excuse me....Rural region

I spend a lot of time in Pennsylvania. I've never seen anyone hugging his Bible. I live in NH. We have far more rural than urban areas here. Never saw anyone clinging to a gun. I spend alot of time in Vermont, which is virtually all rural. Nobody hugging Bibles in Vermont.

No more racist than this.
Proposition R: Renaming the Oceanside Water Treatment Plant - San Francisco County, CA

Shall the City change the name of the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant to the George W Bush Sewage Plant?

Fiscal Impact from City Controller:
Should the proposed ordinance be approved by the voters, in my opinion, it would have a minimal impact on the cost of government.

Meaning of Voting Yes/No
A YES vote on this measure means:
If you vote "yes," you want the City to change the name of the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant to the George W Bush Sewage Plant.

A NO vote on this measure means:
If you vote "no," you do not want the City to make this change.
