And you say?
And you say?
"God Bless Our Troops in Harms Way."
It's too late - America, for better or worse, cut their ties with respect to protection of Iraq back in 2010/11. One could argue that the problems in Iraq today are the result of Obama inattention to the Middle East, starting with the Arab Spring, the youth uprisings in Iran, and the total butchering of the situation in Syria. But that bed has been made. Time to let the people of the region fight for their own lifestyles and survival.
Canada isn't a big military player, but I would support my government joining with the US to protect countries like Jordan, as an example, or Turkey, or the Kurds in northern Iraq, because these are examples of people who mind their own business and treat their people with respect and equality. As Muslims, I believe the Kurds are the only "nation" that protect and respect women as equals - something we should hope all Muslims one day aspire too.
Going back into Iraq now, under these circumstances, is a fool's game and sure to end badly.
A Canadian conservative is one who believes in limited government and that the government should stay out of our wallets and out of our bedrooms.
Here's an idea. Those that think we should go back to Iraq, buy a ticket to Iraq and fight the good fight. I'm sure they would be happy to have your help.
I confess, I did it, I let the dogs out.
The USA never had any real vital interests in Iraq and never should have sent troops there.
It certainly shouldn't send any ground troops there now.
Let them people clean up their own mess.
Pull out. Let them break up into three states. Try to minimize harm to civilians while they work out their own destiny.
We should not get involved in sectarian civil war. Much of the middle east is going to have to deal with this Sunni vs Shia conflict, and it will have to do it for itself. No solution imposed by an outsider will stick or be satisfying to the people there. They won't fight to defend it if they don't build it themselves.
Liberté. Égalité. Fraternité.
Grab popcorn and kick up our feet. We've done enough damage there it's time to focus on un****ing America.
