Caucasian is a race, and Latin Americans are overwhelmingly caucasian.

Mestizo is not a race, anymore than mulatto is a race.

Again I think you're mixed up maybe about the thread.

Most of the Central Americans in the US are not Caucasians but are mixed race mestizos, mixed with both Amerindian and European and sometimes African. So they are not Caucasians as you claim.

No Mestizo is not a race, it's a mix of races. That stated, Mestizo is an accurate racial label over "Hispanic" which tells you nothing about a persons racial heritage.

Answering "I'm Hispanic" tells us nothing about your ancestors because:

A 100% African person, a 100% Chinese person can be "Hispanic". Hispanic is not a race. It is a culture just as Christianity is a religion. Hispanic does not really tell us anything about you other than you perhaps eat tacos, which obviously isn't very telling about you.

She's hot, I don't care what race she is.

And no, she's black. But most Latin Americans are white.

I agree that she's hot. However, most Latin Americans are not castillian (white), but native Indians (brown).

So do you want to put "mulatto" back on the census questionnaire?

Re: Will America ever acknowledge Mestizos or continue to push the White/Black dichot

That makes the video even worse of an argument. The guy is trying to show that Hispanics don't have a race listed when one of the races listed, according to you (white), isn't even a race?

The guy in the video is entirely accurate. All he's trying to show is that the people he's asking about which race they are are actually majority Amerindian race and or Mestizo, not white or Caucasian as some of you would claim.

However due to American cultural influence they are instead choosing white or Hispanic, both of which are not races.

No, white is not a race (holy god I have to say that lol?). European is a race in general terms. White is a complexion. An Arab can be white but not European, and a European white but not Arab. You understand?

Doesn't mulatto mean 'half-breed'? What's wrong with the simple term Mixed race. Why can't that be added to the census?

Ummm....no.

Whites make up the majorities of Argentina, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Chile and Cuba. Whites make up nearly half of Brazil's population.

I believe it is on the census.

Yes there are a lot of Europeans in South America. Many Americans do not know this.

That said, often times many South Americans do not know that the Central Americans in the US are not Europeans but are Mestizos or Amerindians. So both confuse the truths about the others societies.

I want a "None of your business" option.

Then again I have yet to see a census form.

Do you really see a racial difference?

Uh yes. You don't?

Three of the brazilians clearly have, not only darker skin, but physicalities that are more mongoloid than causcoid.

Re: Will America ever acknowledge Mestizos or continue to push the White/Black dichot

Slight skin color difference with some of the people in Pic 1.
No idea if that indicates race difference or not.

The physicalities of the three brazilian men definitely denote a racial difference from caucasian.

No, especially to that last. Yes, where Brazilians largely will claim at least one white European ancestor when asked, a large chunk of that is Portuguese. When asked they self-identify as "Brazilian", the culture being so ancestrally diverse.

Re: Will America ever acknowledge Mestizos or continue to push the White/Black dichot

A tell tale sign of someone who is purely caucasian is a narrow face, narrow nose.

A flat broad nose and round face would indicate that somewhere along the line interracial mating took place. Thinner lips are also typically Caucasian - any physicalities that where benefecial in extreme cold climates & high altitudes.

You sound like a nazi.

Re: Will America ever acknowledge Mestizos or continue to push the White/Black dichot

People in the USA are only concerned about whether someone is Hispanic (AKA Latino) or not. We define someone as Hispanic or Latino if they, or their ancestors, are from a Spanish speaking American nation. (Portuguese speaking Brazilians are close enough.) It is reasonable that we lump together Hispanics by nationality, rather than by color or race, because color or race does not tell us much about the person, while their nationality is more relevant as a indicator of their language and culture. Even when color/race is an indication of language or culture, most residents of the USA do not have the knowledge to know that some people with certain physical features have a specific culture or language that is distinct from the dominant Hispanic culture or language.

Re: Will America ever acknowledge Mestizos or continue to push the White/Black dichot

America has more Mestizos than African Americans now yet one would never know this through American media. You will never hear the word Mestizo in the US. Ever. This is even more odd when you start to realize that A 2012 study published by the Journal of Human Genetics found that the majority of the current Mexican population (~93%) is mixed race to some degree, counting the Mexican population of the US.

Why is this? Why do we constantly read about black and white America in our media but never mestizo America?

Is this intentional? Is this cultural? Is this sociocultural conspiracy? The media? Is this lack of care about said Mestizo population compared to the black, white populations? Is this simply that Mestizos are thrown into a black, white categorization based on their skin color and that's why? Do Americans just not focus on Mestizos enough to care to even acknowledge their existence? Is it simply that Mestizos haven't built up the clout yet of black America?

I find this "erasing" of Mestizos from all facets of American conscious fascinating either way. I mean really, you never hear "A Mestizo man, a black man and a white man were arrested today." Why not?

I never heard of the term Mestizo although by what you said I assumed it was a person of mixed parentage. I looked in Wester's 21st Century Dictionary and it defined Mestizo as Hispano-Indian. So I went to another dictionary, abet older and it said The offspring of a Spaniard or Portuguese and an American Indian.

Now I can see Brazil having a bunch, a Portuguese Colony or Mexico and Central America, Spanish Colonies. So you think there are more than 13% of this offshoot, Mestizo in the United States?
