Re: America is or is not a Christian Nation.

As a kid growing up in the 1950s there was no doubt the U.S. was a Christian nation. You would have to look long and hard to find someone who would state that it wasnt, if you could find someone. We were taught in school that the founding father prayed and asked god for guidance. The ten commandants were on the door of the courthouse and the manger scene and more was on the city hall lawn come Christmas time. We even said the pledge of allegiance and had a prayer before class while I was in elementary school.

The debate on whether the United States is a Christian nation or not is a recent phenomenon. In a recent Gallup poll 77% of Americans said they were Christian.

In U.S., 77% Identify as Christian

I think with that many Christians in the U.S., that in itself should be enough to convince anyone the U.S. is a Christian nation. In my travels around the world, every country I have been to consider the U.S. a Christian nation. I would assume if you ask those from any other country the question, is the U.S. a Christian Nation and the response would be a resounding yes.

So the debate whether we are or arent a Christian Nation is among only a few here, inside this country. That debate has been long settled all over the world.
This Reform Party member thinks it is high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first and their political party further down the line. But for way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

Based on what ... What qualifications and authority do you have to base that opinion? All fall short of the grace of God. All sin (original sin). Qualify "far removed". When you cannot, and you base your statement on nothing but opinion I don't think there's much else for me to discuss with you. You're making a judgement based on your opinion, without qualification, using subjective terms like "far removed". After I've already shown you making things up in this thread, I don't think your claim or judgement carry much credibility. Sorry.
I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on whats being proposed here, hed agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute. - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

I brought up the holidays, to which he agrees now. I brought up the marriage structure, the Protestant Work Ethic, funerals, cemetery's structure (burials), Common Law based off the Church's teachings, Jesus's forgiveness with regards to accepting homosexuality, etc etc etc and he denies it all and says that it is opinion.

I don't think it is either way. Ask yourself how many live the Christian life style? That mix (which is more Judeo-Christian and American mythology) you speak up largely negates much of Christianity.

AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.
