Political hipsters can get ****ed.

Not only are independents cool, but they enjoy greater access to sex, too?

Where do I sign up?!

Re: Do independents think they are cool?

Do independents think they are cool?

yes

.....

I am not registered to any party, nor is there an "Independent party" in my state. I was republican, but then on the state level and nationally, they put so many bat-sh** crazy people in, that I re registered as no party. In my state, I can vote in the primary, I just have to request a ballot from one of the parties. I would prefer an "at large" election, where everyone is on the same primary ballot, and the two candidates who get the most votes will go to the regular election.

Hey Beefheart.

I'm aware that not all states recognize the "Independent Party." Is there a "Peace and Freedom Party" in every state ? Is the "Constitutional Party" recognized in every state ?

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Albert Einstein

So, to vote over and over again for one of the major parties, expecting them to be competent, when clearly both seem to be both corrupt and incompetent is...

Re: Do independents think they are cool?

That's patently ridiculous. Now, I do know some people who fit that mold, and I tend to refer to those people as "extreme", but most do not. Merely being affiliated with a party does not automatically equal lack of independent thought.

I choose to not affiliate with a party because, IMO, both parties have long abandoned anything other than it's own party structure as its concern long ago, and I don't want either party even pointing to me as a number on a list and claiming that they have my support when in fact they do not.
Does that prevent you from voting in the primaries?

Re: Do independents think they are cool?

In my current state, yes, it does prevent me from voting in primaries. I put a lot of thought into it, and the trade-off is acceptable to me. Not perfect, but better to me in a relative sense.

Re: Do independents think they are cool?

How the hell should I know?

I'm too independent to independently determine the independence of independents.

Of course they think that they are cool.

Everyone on this planet thinks that they are the coolest critter in the universe until enough people point out how totally un-cool they are.

They think that they are cool, but actually they're right pillocks.

It's an extremely common misconception.

BTW: Anyone who's really Independent doesn't even have to say that they're Independent, because they show it by their actions.

I'm so not-cool that I'm cool.

I'm so Independent and cool that I don't waste my time worrying about what other people think.

Re: Do independents think they are cool?

Independents don't simply think we are cool... we are cool!

Re: Do independents think they are cool?

I'm frankly kind of surprised that this hasn't been flushed yet.

Could it possibly be any more of a bait thread if it even tried?

Not necessarily. One can be liberal or conservative or even libertarian in nature yet still remain politically independent. In the context of the thread we are talking about the parties not generalized political ideology. At least that is how I have read it.

This was supposed to have been posted here earlier and somehow ended up in another completely unrelated thread.

Re: Do independents think they are cool?

I don’t know if being a Reform Party member qualifies me as an independent of as a nut job as someone just said. But I am socially liberal which is anathema to the Republican Party as I favor a woman’s right to have an abortion is she so chooses and am for gay marriage. But I am a fiscal conservative who believes in a balance budget and not spending more than what revenues you take in, anathema to the Democrats. I would say the largest group in the independent ranks are socially liberal and fiscally conservative. But they span the entire political spectrum.

I'll say this as I've said before. I read you, and it's as if I wrote it.

I differ with both parties on issues that are key to the party. I tend to vote more for the Republicans than the Democrats because on the issues that are really important to me, I disgaree primarily with the Democrats.

In my perfect world we'd find the 2016 version of Goldwater.

Well, I'm an independent AND a mac user....

Fonzi could only dream...

Re: Do independents think they are cool?

I am pleased to see people took this poll that seemed to be a thinly veiled swipe at independents and used it to show how independents are, IMO, clearly the future of American politics....assuming America has a future, that is.

The two major parties are dinosaurs.

Re: Do independents think they are cool?

I don't give the "cool" much thought. I am a conservative independent. I am an independent because the republican party is too top heavy with establishment politicians, many of whom are RINOS. When the majority of the republican party starts honoring the republican party platform, which is conservative, I will become a republican. In the meantime I just vote for conservative candidates.

I am more along the lines of the Reagan Era.
