A number of Libertarians on here have been trashing Rand Paul lately.
As he tries to broaden his appeal, he's being accused of selling out on just about everything.
Kind of the Cantor thing, where the GOP is now strong-TEA versus shut-the-gov't-down-TEA .

What I find disturbing, how many independents when registering to vote check the box of the Independent Party which is recognized in many states and it's a legitimate political party with a platform and all and does run candidates for political offices in many states.

That's not being cool, that showing how stupid they are.

I ALWAYS vote. I pick whichever one I think can do the best job, taking into consideration the most important issues to me at the time, as well as the whole country. Sometimes it's the lesser of two evils.

I think you're assuming that Independents vote for third parties. That's not the case. They usu. vote for one of the two major parties. Besides, that's usually the only choices. BEING independent does not mean belonging to an "Independent Party." There is no Independent Party in my state, I, personally, am independent (small "i").

This goes to my statement that people who belong to the two major parties don't understand people who don't. They assume they must belong to SOME party. But they don't. Being independent merely means you are not aligned with a party.

That would mean it's the name of a third party in that state. I don't see why that would upset you.

I'm supposedly brainwashed and believe every little thing that my party tells me, even though I often vote against them. He also claims that being unaffiliated proves that he's 100% non-partisan, even though he votes for the Democrats 99% of the time and refuses to criticize Obama about anything. He even defended Obama's opposition to SSM.
That's patently ridiculous. Now, I do know some people who fit that mold, and I tend to refer to those people as "extreme", but most do not. Merely being affiliated with a party does not automatically equal lack of independent thought.

I choose to not affiliate with a party because, IMO, both parties have long abandoned anything other than it's own party structure as its concern long ago, and I don't want either party even pointing to me as a number on a list and claiming that they have my support when in fact they do not.

I am not registered to any party, nor is there an "Independent party" in my state. I was republican, but then on the state level and nationally, they put so many bat-sh** crazy people in, that I re registered as no party. In my state, I can vote in the primary, I just have to request a ballot from one of the parties. I would prefer an "at large" election, where everyone is on the same primary ballot, and the two candidates who get the most votes will go to the regular election.

Not that upset that there are tens of thousands of "independents" in my state who believe they don't belong to any organized political party but registered to vote as a member of the "Independent Party."

What concerns me these people might be participating in our elections and voting.

It's a dead giveaway. "Independent" is capitalized, a proper noun. There was a time when anyone with an 8th grade education would know this.

I remember over on the old Politco Community Forum where members listed their political registration or ideology/lean and when it was pointed out that "Independent" was capitalized and was a proper noun as if it was the Independent Party that is recognized in many states, hundreds changed their profile to N/A.

But with open primaries like California now has it really doesn't matter I suppose since Groucho Marxist can now vote in a primary and decide who should win a political party's primary and run with a "R." "D," "I," "Green," etc. behind their name.
