That's not being cool, that showing how stupid they are.
I think you're assuming that Independents vote for third parties. That's not the case. They usu. vote for one of the two major parties. Besides, that's usually the only choices. BEING independent does not mean belonging to an "Independent Party." There is no Independent Party in my state, I, personally, am independent (small "i").
This goes to my statement that people who belong to the two major parties don't understand people who don't. They assume they must belong to SOME party. But they don't. Being independent merely means you are not aligned with a party.

Do they drive them there new fangled Saturns or Subarus too?
I choose to not affiliate with a party because, IMO, both parties have long abandoned anything other than it's own party structure as its concern long ago, and I don't want either party even pointing to me as a number on a list and claiming that they have my support when in fact they do not.
If, when defending your support for Donald Trump, and your response is,
"But but but... HILLARY!!!", then you lost the argument before you even began.

What concerns me these people might be participating in our elections and voting.
It's a dead giveaway. "Independent" is capitalized, a proper noun. There was a time when anyone with an 8th grade education would know this.
I remember over on the old Politco Community Forum where members listed their political registration or ideology/lean and when it was pointed out that "Independent" was capitalized and was a proper noun as if it was the Independent Party that is recognized in many states, hundreds changed their profile to N/A.
But with open primaries like California now has it really doesn't matter I suppose since Groucho Marxist can now vote in a primary and decide who should win a political party's primary and run with a "R." "D," "I," "Green," etc. behind their name.
