Should we ever have a budget surplus again, what should we do with the extra money?

1) Spend it on more stuff?
2) Lower taxes?
3) Put it toward the debt?

A real surplus, I mean, not a Bill Clinton smoke-and-mirrors surplus.

i would split it between paying down a portion of our debt, fixing health care, changing our energy model, and upgrading infrastructure.

Pay down debt. We might generate a surplus via growth in the next handful of years, but starting in the 2020s the entitlements are going to wipe us out, and every little bit better off we are when that happens helps.

Build the wall.

Build the wall.

I thought libertarians hate walls??

Liberals would never allow it to pay down the debt, liberals love more money for government, thus a surplus would never exist.

Conservatives gave us the two most fiscally irresponsible presidents in reagan and bush. they have no right to talk about debt.

Re: Should we ever have a budget surplus again, what should we do with the extra mone

Not this one. I believe in Liberty for Americans.

Does liberty mean building a wall to keep people from leaving?

Of course not. I support a wall because illegal invasion restricts Liberty for Americans. Americans lose jobs to illegals. Illegals cost the American taxpayer huge amounts of money in unpaid medical bills, crime incarceration costs, and unpaid taxes to name a few. As a Libertarian, I am for any measure that limits, restricts or stops cold any condition that hurts opportunities for American citizens, and that includes illegal immigration. It is high time we did something about it.

Lets do the math

Reagan increased the national debt in 8 yrs by 1.6 trillion, however Obama in just 5.5 yrs has increased the national debt by 7 trillion and climbing. Is my math wrong or are you a Obama supporter at all cost? Of course you are. When Obama gets done he will all by himself will increase the national debt by 10 trillion more than all the presidents combined.

Obama is sinking and you hang on to his sinking ship hoping and hoping, but only the most loyalist hang in to keep him afloat.

Re: Should we ever have a budget surplus again, what should we do with the extra mone

I wish you people would stop this Democrat vs Republican thing. BOTH parties are failures. BOTH are running this country into the ground.

Please wake up.

Look at the wall Israel built, it works, but of course you would never admit it. And to answer your question it keeps terrorist out and the suicide bombers have been non existent, sense the time the wall was built. And it works to keep people in, the Berlin wall did it all, keep people in and people out. Lets remember it was Reagan that asked to "tear down that wall".

So yeah walls work. In fact walls have worked from the time of the beginning of man.

The last couple of times we had a surplus, Liberals were running things.

One thing we should be sure not to do is to elect a republicon president ...
They will spend and spend and spend till it's all gone 10 times over...
We learned that lesson with Bush Junior.

Reagan and bush had increased the debt more than the previous presidents combined. Why was that an issue back then?

Spend on crumbling infrastructure.

Obama sure shattered that stat. Obama all by himself will have added more to the national debt than all the presidents before him.

Adding to our national debt is always an issue. Obama told us so many times that it's unpatriotic and Obama becomes the most unpatriotic of them all. Of course he proves he is unpatriotic every day.
