Should the TEA Party abandon the Gadsden Flag after the shooting in Vegas

Now that it has come out the shooters were supporters of Bundy, supporters to the TEA Party and laid a Gadsden flag on one of the dead officers they gunned down. Should the TEA party move away from the Gadsden flag?

Should they have to? No. If people want to assume that two people represent an entire movement, then they are truly idiots.

Should they? Yes, because of the very reason that many people are idiots and will try to associate the tea party with these two murderers.

i'm no fan of the tea party. however, as is true with any political movement, the actions of a couple nutbags are the actions of a couple nutbags.

should political organizations stop being so "us vs them" inflammatory? yes. there is no need to rev up the actual crazies with hyperpartisan nonsense. but the vast majority of tea party members would never dream of doing something so horrifying; similarly, the vast majority of teenagers will never shoot up a school.

there's always a temptation to highlight one nutbag who is connected to the other team, and then try to use that to indict the entire ideology. this is intellectually dishonest.

Not because of this incident, no. They could however, make a more concerted effort to distance themselves from extremist and militia groups who may use the flag as well.

    No. I love the flag.

Should christians stop using crosses because the KKK likes to light them on fire?
Should Catholics stop operating daycares and religious schools because of a few pedophile priests?
Should muslims stop flying planes because of a few terrorists?
Should Mormons stop practicing mormonism because of Warren Jeffs?
I am sure I could go on further but I think I made my point.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I always had a lot of reservations with the TP adopting the Gadsden flag personally. Both sides take our national heritage, but the political parties really don't have much in common with the the parties of the founding of this country. I use parties in founding pretty loosely obviously.

No, but keep the guilt by association game going

The shooters in Vegas also breathed....should the Tea Party stop breathing? I'm sure they've probably gone to McDonalds as well.....Should McDonald's stop selling fries? These questions make about as much sense as yours. Or going a different direction, should Muslims stop flying on planes after 9/11?

Because a few idiots held certain similar views or gave their vocal support to something doesn't in any way indicate they are representatitive of said group or that the group directly had any impact on them being idiots.

No, the Tea Party shouldn't give power to two lunatics by altering how they function or act out of some misguided and ignorant belief that they're responsible.

I have no idea what this flag is about. But I think that only in extreme cases should symbols be abandoned because other people or groups use it for bad things.

Two examples: Charlie Chaplin's moustache, and the Hindu swastika.

If the shooters had laid Obamas book on the dead officer, should he disown his book?

Why would anybody change what they do based on what crazy people do?
