Was Bill Clinton a good president?

What do you mean by "good"? I disagreed with many of his policies. Especially NAFTA and the embargo/bombing of Iraq.

I think so, I would put him up there with Eisenhower, JFK and Reagan, that I have experienced in my life time as above average. Although he would rank below IKE and JFK, someday's I would have him third and someday's fourth. But above average compared to the others.

I disagreed with many things he did, and any one who does not disagree with every president on a fair number of things is a blind ideologue. However, I think he did a very good job of gettting most legislation right, he worked well with the other party, he was reportedly good at listening to other viewpoints and learning from them. Overall, a pretty good package.

Sure he was bipartisan. But the whole Welfare for work, NAFTA (leading to off shoring of jobs, really kinda biting us in the ass), bombing of Sudan, whole Kosovo bombing of civilians, the Iraqi blockade which left millions of Iraqi citizens dead/dying. Sure he was bipartisan and all, but in the long run I wouldnt put him up there as a "good president".

I was never a fan of Bill Clinton, but he did one thing masterfully... his handling of the economy. He did NOTHING. That's right, he did nothing. He was in the right place at the right time with the dot.com boom and he was actually smart enough to leave it alone, let it do its thing, and take all the credit.

Sometimes good government isn't what you do, good government is what you don't do.

I thought he did pretty well especially in his second term.

I agree he was above average but i believe Eisenhower towers above the rest. It seems when republicans talk about great republican presidents they immediately bring up Reagan. But I do not believe Reagan is anywhere near the stature of Eisenhower. Coming out of WWII Ike was a beloved American hero and had one advantage that subsequent presidents did not in having an united country. I doubt we will ever in our lifetime see another president Ike.

Was Bill Clinton a good president?

In some senses yes-his idiotic gun bans and tax hikes got the GOP control of both houses for the first time in decades.

One thing he was for sure, was a very good and skillful politician.

Clinton was clearly better than Obama and Bush, both 1&2, but not quite as iconic as Reagan, who somehow managed to re-ignite the country after Carter demoralized it.

I agree, in my lifetime IKE is number one. It is also interesting to note when IKE was president way more Americans trusted their government than not. Today hardly anyone trusts their own government. One reason so many Republicans bring up Reagan is they weren't around during Eisenhower's time. It is hard to remember someone when you weren't even born yet. One tends to forget the 1957 and 1960 civil rights bills were passed under him not to mention the interstate highway system. Better yet is once he ended the Korean War we were at peace as a nation. IKE also had surpluses in two of his eight years where the national debt actually went down.

He was a man respected by both parties and all of America. He worked across the aisle to get his agenda through congress having LBJ then the senate majority leader over to the White House at least three times a week. He respected congress and worked with them, not against them.

I could go on, but yes indeed, he is the best president I have ever experienced, the nation too.

Was Bill Clinton a good president?

I voted yes, because of his actual work as President, not his personal life. If the question had been, "Was Clinton a good person for kids to emulate?" then my answer probably would have been different.

They call him slick Willy for a reason. He was probably the most adaptive politician I have ever seen, and would work hard to get consensus with Congress (even Newt Gingrich gives him credit for working with Congress - after being pushed to overcome his staff's objections), although his staffers were more like Obama in their attempt to widen the divide between parties and still are doing that as talking heads in TV.

His ability to work across party lines is a big plus. He wasn't perfect; but I'd take him over Bush or Obama.

He is definitely smarter than either of those two but less intellectually honest than W. He was more of a pragmatist than an ideologue and admitted he did some stupid things like his gun laws and tax hikes.

Oh yeah. But he's a politician, either you have honesty or politics.

This. I couldn't have put it better.

Remember people, he was the NAFTA Traitor of all US CITIZENS.

I believe he was a better husband than he was president...

Then he must have been a really pathetic president because a good husband he wasn't. He was a serial adulterer and arguably even a rapist (Juanita Broaddrick).

He was bipartisan because he had to be-he lost the house and had to go along to get along. Ironically it led to some of his best legislation.
