I say yes.I think that considering the fact we are having our troops sacrifice for their lives then they should be allowed to have all the vices they can.Basically they should be treated like a make a wish kid except with booze, hookers, dirty magazines, alcohol marijuana and etc.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I support its legalization and I say hell no. Nobody should be "on the job" and on weed. This isn't even a close call.

For certain occupations, I can see the logic behind restricted use of alcohol, marijuana and drug use. First priority; All elected government officials.

I don't think the OP was about troops on the job.... but the whether troops should be allowed to partake when off duty. The Army is fine with soldiers drinking while on leave, why not enjoying a bowl?

That said, it is a matter for the military. They get to set the rules for the troops; just as a company gets to set the rules for their employees. Morality is always a higher standard than legality.

I'm still inclined to say no, because of it being public sector. Hell, if private sector employers didn't allow for it, I'd be good with it. It'd cause insurance rates to skyrocket.

Troops aren't always on the job, dude. They're not walking around 24/7 with rifles.

I support legalization and say no. Soldiers/sailors/airmen/marines fall under federal law, not state, and I don't think this should be changed in any way.

    This.

On the one hand, I don't see why anyone who can drink shouldn't be allowed to use pot. On the other hand, commanding officers will have a far more intimate grasp of the impact of pot on the functionality of the men and women beneath them. Judgement calls like this are why there's a chain of command to begin with.

Just for reference, means my post was a giant steaming pile of sarcasm.

With their jobs, needed readiness, and level of exactitude I'd still say no. I wouldn't want cops or fireman on the weed either - even if they're not on the clock.

The problem is that there is no generally agreed upon level of THC in the blood/urine that defines being "stoned/high" like there is for BAC levels defining drunk/under the influence.
