The worst thing Japan could have done is bomb Pearl Harbor. It brought the US out of its depression and it ultimately ended Japan's and Hitler's quest for world domination.

If Pearl Harbor isn't bombed then the US war machine may have never gotten started in time to win WWII.

Also, who knows how long the depression may have lasted.

Not sure what would have been the outcome but it was evil for Japan to bomb Pearl Harbor, and it was more evil that the U.S. dropped those two atomic bombs on two cities.

Alternate history does not exist. All are free to predict anything and it cannot be disproven. ;)

Japan was warned to surrender or face the consequences of being nuked. Then, after the first nuke was dropped they were warned again. I guess the Imperial Japanese leadership were slow learners.

If they had not attacked Pearl Harbor none of this would have ever happened, now would it?

OK, without any Japanese involvement, the US would come to the aid of Europe in WWII but be able to defeat the Nazi's and Italians without need for Russian aid and then keep going until they took Moscow too. ;)

The US would have found another way to antogonize the Japanese into attacking us so that we have an excuse to declare war on Japan just like it did in WWI and WWII with the germans.

We fired the first shot. Japan would have declared war a few days after Dec 7. I would suggest folks read the timeline to the attack, we depth charged a sub of theirs before the air strike, of course it doesn't matter since their planes were already airborne, does make for some fun thinking exercises though.

l still dont know if pearl harbor was just an excuse to enter the war.can you clarify it ?

While The US wouldnt have been at war, a cold war would have continued in which the US would supply UK and China with needed money and materiel.

The Japanese didn't know their sub was sank by the US when Pearl Harbor was bombed. The reason it was sank is because its location was considered an act of war. It had nothing to do with Pearl Harbor being attacked. The Japs had planned the attack for months.

Why would the US not enter the war after thousands of mostly defenseless sailors and other military and civilian personnel were cowardly surprise attacked and killed?

Oh I agree, the job of the sub was about to cause more destruction during and after the air attacks. Had the sub still been sunk and no airstrike, things may have played out differently.

Most Americans did not support entering the European conflict.

I have read several bio's on FDR, it wasn't really Japan he was interested in fighting. He did place an embargo on Japan so we stopped sending them oil and scrap metal. But it was Germany FDR was itching to get us to go to war with. Japan did him a favor in bombing Pearl, then Hitler did him an ever bigger favor when he declared war on us a few days after Pearl. One must remember there was a very strong isolationist cause in the U.S. back then. A lot of people who thought let Europeans fight Europeans and keep us out of it. One also has to remember also the Pacific Theater war was secondary to the European war. Europe came first, the Pacific whenever the war was won in Europe.

It is hard to say what would have happen if no Pearl Harbor. Personally I think FDR would have kept searching for a valid reason to get us involved in Europe and sooner or later he would have found it. As for the USSR, Stalin had already moved most of his factories east of the urals in case Moscow did fall. They were far from dead.

I'm sure the Japs would have declared it an act of war and then launching a surprise attack wouldn't have been considered cowardly.

There are always those that bait others for their own reasons - as well as those that take the bait, sometimes to their chagrin and disgust later! Human nature demands we learn the lessons about "pie-in-the-sky," the hard way, I guess.

Why was FDR so set on getting involved in Europe - I didn't know that about him. Did he hope that we might pull out of the Great Depression by making jobs in manufacturing available here to support a war effort? He did a great job prior to that by keeping men working through his alphabet agencies, and I commend him for his thinking! People never lost hope that things would get better, and they loved and respected him for that, my family included. I'm not a Democrat, but you must give credit where it is due!

USA wouldnt enter the war. Continue aiding the USSR and Western Allies through Lend Lease aid. USSR would eventually end up defeating the Axis with the Western European allies. After that, I really dont know...

FDR is considered one of the three great presidents this country has had by historians. I agree with them. I will give you my best guess coming from what I have read about him, I think FDR was an Anglophile and was determined to do all he could to keep England from falling to the Nazis. Besides he and Churchill had a real good friendship. I do not think it had anything to do with getting us out of the Great Depression or even manufacturing. Lend Lease pretty much determined we were not going to get paid. I think FDR realized Hitler could very well conquer Europe and pretty much of Asia if we didn't get ourselves involved. He did have great foresight.
