Should Donald Sterling be forgiven?

Cant schedule around around like that. He will sell. He just needs to think it through.

I would hate to sell---that team is a gold mine. The Lakers are at least 5 years away from being relevant again. The Clippers are the hot LA ticket now. Billion dollar TV contracts are for the taking.

Of course, when your pot of gold relies on a good faith contract with African Americans, be they players, coaches or fans, only an idiot would disparage them. So...he probably should sell the team for what he can get. I suspect he will still walk away with a huge profit.

I call such people racial bigots, I condemn them individually just as much as racists.

Like hell.

You're trying to circumvent your obvious prejudices by making baseless claims. You may as well be wearing a dashiki and sporting dreads while screaming about "injustice from whitey".

Why make up a separate form of hatred? It's the same hatred. It's all heinous. It's all racism.

Fine him, let him keep the team.
Of course good luck finding players that would play for him or sponsors that will invest.

Yeah, I'm not going to play for a guy that will give me millions of dollars because of his views. Why in the hell would I care? I want the millions of dollars, ffs.

What did he do to the NBA?

He damaged their image, insulted members of the NBA, their fans and the country. He proved that a moron can own an NBA team. It reduces confidence in other owners and the NBA itself. He tarnished the NBA.

Bigotry is about more than hatred. Not all bigotry is the same. Racism is bigotry in a social context. That social context cannot be removed in order to equate all bigotry or the point of having a name for the social construct as opposed to bigotry is lost. That's the objective of racists - to ignore real racism and invent fake racism by equating it with bigotry and just discrimination like AA.

The most disturbing thing about this whole incident is not that there are racist rich white guys owning basketball teams out there, it's that comments said in one's home can have such repercussions. Are we moving to a society we're we have to "lawyer" everything that comes out of our mouths?

He still must pay for what he did to the NBA, including get out.
Not my call. How do we treat others after they apologize? He should not be treated any differently.

The word you're looking for is "pandering".

Like hell.

What? I'll condemn a minority racial bigot just as much as a racist. And remain aware of the difference.

Why not just call me a race traitor?

Seems the comments were made to someone not to be trusted. Those always have repercussions.

Do parents remove penalties from their children for apology? If one apologizes for a crime, are the charges dropped? No. One must still pay for what one does, and he damaged the NBA.

He's forgiven, but the NBA must still be made whole.

I already have. It was in the...you know where.

Yeah. So you're saying African-Americans can't be racist because their ancestors were slaves even though some current African-Americans (and you) hate whites for the color of their skin?

No, you call bigotry by minorities racism because you ignore real racism.

I don't know if you're speak generally or specifically to Sterling's comments but weren't racist. They may not even rise to the level of bigotry.

Not that I really care since the hammer go will go down, but the apology wasn't sincere. He's not sorry for being a racist, he's sorry he got caught. Being a racist for 3-4 decades, engaging in housing discrimination, then suing for getting called out on engaging in discrimination, and then making employees uncomfortable among a litany of other harmful acts does not constitute "a mistake." It is a systematic pattern of behavior that is not likely to change at age 82.

No, it's because they have no power to institute or perpetuate systemic unjust discrimination. They can be bigots, but they have not the social power that defines racism.

Not always and nowhere to this extent. His comments weren't illegal.

He chose to exclude a race, to create a second class citizenry. What he did was an overt attempt to marginalize and subjugate a minority. Further, he considers hard earned pay to be handouts in some sort of a modern plantation fantasy.

I already have. It was in the...you know where.

So you're calling me a race traitor. Thanks.

His comments were a disgrace to the NBA and tarnished the organization. He can be forgiven, but the NBA must still be made whole.

So you're sayin' African-Americans have to be in control in society to be racists? Hum?

Who was in control? Who yanked Sterling's ownership? The NBA with impetuous from the African-American community. So African-Americans are in control in the NBA. And Sterling is out of an ownership. Who's the racist, there?

Blacks being "in control" of a tiny portion of society is irrelevant to the social examination. Whites that experience racial bigotry can always move and thus escape it. Blacks cannot move or otherwise escape the racial bigotry that they experience every day of their life in housing, schooling, employment and the justice system.

Equating minority bigotry, which is of no consequence to the majority, with systemic oppression is nonsense.

No doubt. I am however curious as to whether Sterling would have a legal case against his mistress.

I don't say things in private that I fear becoming public, so I couldn't care less.

You are an ideologue, aren't you? A hater. A racist.
