It's like a teacher turning out to abuse children or a cop being a drug dealer. It's unexpected for the person's position. That adds to the shock.
Telling your girlfriend who you want her to bring to games isn't illegal. Child abuse and drug dealing is.

No one is suggesting Sterling be killed.

Sterling being racist (which every owner must have known already) is NOTHING like a child abusing teacher or a drug dealing cop.

    The first is repugnant...but legal.

The second one is hideous and illegal.

The last one is wrong and illegal.

The point is: Sterling is in a position wherein one would not expect the behavior engaged in. That he had won awards and such does not prove innocence, it adds to the shock of a racist being an NBA owner.

The point is you're trying to equate illegal activities with a man's words that were, quite frankly, none of your business or mine or anyone else's. If that isn't scary, I don't know what the hell is.

That's not the point, that's your diversion.

A bunch of old, rich, white guys...and you expect all of them to not be racist?

Not me...I assume most of them are (to varying extents).

The only thing that shocked me as how stupid Sterling was to blurt it out (even in private) like that.
Always assume everything you say is being taped.

The point is you have to be insane to equate child abuse to the private ramblings of a man in the privacy of his home.

Child abuse is disgusting. And it's a damn sick example to use here.

It's all getting out of hand. What's the guys name, Don JOnes? He also got fined and suspended for saying two words; "omg and horrible". I'm in an IR marriage and I could care less what he thinks about minorities in his head. Penalties unless you conform to groupthink is getting ridiculous. Let's just silence everyone. Let's (try) and shame everyone into thinking exactly the way we do. When will it bother you? When someone speaks on politics, and gets fined? When someone gives their opinion about someone's body shape, or guns? I like knowing what a person is made of. Give me a person real and raw,(even if I disagree)over a timid, fake, two faced person anyday!

Like any other group, there will be good and bad, smart and dumb. His position is what covered for him so many years and caused us to be shocked. The event demonstrates that racism occurs at the highest levels of our private organizations, and it can do so over years using position as a cover. The implications are cringe worthy and the NBA would be well advised to wash their hands of it as quickly as possible.
