that's silly, AA assumes blacks are less capable than whites or Asians

disagree. Because lots of blacks who get AA come from wealthy backgrounds and get in ahead of poorer whites

The poll is about Affirmative Action. Obama is a black man who is the most powerful man in the world. I'm using him as an example of why Affirmative Action is no longer needed.

Unlike you, I stayed on topic. Every post I made about Obama had to do with Affirmative Action.

And the example of Fredrick Douglass shows that it is possible to succeed despite adversity. That doesn't mean that mean that one should not try to alleviate the adverse conditions, which is what AA attempts to do.

If there had been no AA Obama would just be another member of the corrupt dem machine in Chicago

You brought up slavery when mentioning Douglass. This thread wasn't about slavery then, and it still isn't.

Is Obama a black man who succeeded based on his merits, or is he a black man who succeeded thanks to Affirmative Action? Why do you keep avoiding that question?

I'm trying to figure out what these AA advocates want. They say it has to stay in place because black man are being oppressed and repressed and held back. But mention that a black man is the most powerful man in the world as President of the USA, and they get all huffy and say that isn't relevant.

Either AA isn't necessary because Obama proved that any smart, hardworking black man can achieve anything, or they have to say that he only achieved what he did because of Affirmative Action. They want to have it both ways.

Of course they do. They want the "victim" designation when they can benefit from it, but the entire time they assert they are equal. This cognitive dissonance leads to rulings like scotus justice ginsbergs who stated that AA is ok right now, but only for another 20 years or so.
