The other death penalty poll made me think of this.

Do you think support for the death penalty would change significantly if we as citizens had to be the ones to actually kill the inmates? For example, any time a state killed an inmate they would hold a lottery with the names of all registered voters in that state, and the person's name that was drawn would be the one to have to carry out the death sentence. Obviously they would have help with the technical aspects (for example, a nurse/doctor/medic to insert the IV), but they would be the ones to push the button.

Let's assume that failing to perform your duty as required would get you charged with a misdemeanor.

Try killing the animal you eat. Some have a problem and some do it for sport.

It would either stay the same or decrease. I'd imagine that there would be some stories written by the lucky "lottery winners" that would go viral on the internet and based off of my observations of the Internet demographic, the stories where the "lottery winners" felt disgusted would be more likely to go viral. Maybe. All I know is that I see no reason why support would increase.

Let the family of the victim pull the trigger or flip the switch. If they say no-life in prison

Yes, it changes my mind about it. Lethal injection is a joke. Get a short rope and a tall tree, problem solved. I would look them in the eye and curse their mothers while I did it to them also.

Support for the death penalty would plummet under this scenario.

I don't know about popular support, I can only answer for myself, but I'd push the button in a heartbeat. No problem whatsoever. In fact, if they want to hire met to push all the buttons in all the states, I'd be happy to do so.
