Which the NBA won't let happen. Seattle deserves a team, but they are probably going to have to wait until the TV contract runs out in a few years and they discuss expansion.

I Doubt that NBA will expand, that would cut into TV contract profits. Easier for the NBA to move a team then expand.

I think they might. Hansen's group was willing to make huge concessions when they were trying to buy the Kings. They might be willing to do so again to make the profits from entering the new Seattle market outweigh the downside of a new team's share of contract.

If they don't expand though, you will probably have to wait a long time, as the Clippers aren't going to move and the vulnerable teams like the Pelicans, Bucks, and Kings have all been recently sold.

Then my boycott of the NBA will continue.

They shouldn't have to watch what they say in private, and the girl should be prosecuted for secretly taping their conversation. However, I don't really have a problem with the NBA punishing Sterling, because fair or not, their business was being hurt by his comments.

The NBA certainly has grounds to punish him. I just don't like the precedent.

What statute did this woman supposedly violate?

At the risk of "blaming the victim," the fact that he trusted this gold digger enough to think she might not do something skeevy like this shows remarkable naivete. When you're rich like he is, there's always someone trying to take you down.

As above, I just don't like the precedent. I don't like the idea of private conversations coming back to bite someone. Ubiquitous technology is making it more and more difficult to ever have a moment of privacy. The guy's still a dick, and the things he says are disgusting, but I like privacy.

I don't know. I've heard people on television say that it was obtained illegally. I just assumed they were right.

I don't like his racist remarks, but it looks like the leftwing thought-nazis won out again. Sieg Heil!!! Sieg Heil!! Let's round up the haters and shoot them all, throw them in gas chambers and them cook them in ovens. What's next, loyality oaths? Let's just become the USSR we destroyed and turn each other in to the Fatherland. Stupid ****s.
You're embarrassing yourself.

Our country is doomed if the words of a man made in private to his girlfriend caused a PR nightmare.
Spare us the drama. An owner of a major sports franchise stating his dislike for black people should result in a PR nightmare for the organization.

Anyone notice how the ex wife was always asleep at the games???

California code 631.

CA Codes (pen:630-638)

I don't mind the precedent provided Stiviano is brought up on charges. Casual violations of privacy aren't going to happen if you are risking thousands of dollars and time in county.

I could care less about him. I'd be fine with him being imprisoned and stripped of all of his money. Him and people like him. This guy actively ****ed over people for profit. No punishment is too great for people like this.

so you don't like rich people and want him being jailed for a thought crime? sounds like some sort of far left marxist idiocy to me

Authoritarianism is not limited to left or right. Stop using "left" like a pejorative. That said ...

This is asinine.

exactly I agree completely.

Nope, not at all. The NBA has every right to protect their franchises and their brand. This is exactly what they are doing here. He has publicly disgraced not only himself but the Clippers and the league. It does not matter how his comments came to light, and honestly, it's a shame that he wasn't outed before. This is a man who illegally denied housing to people on the basis of race. Which is FAR worse than his comments here, obviously.

Have fun getting sponsors with the outed racist owning one of your franchises; have fun getting free agents to come play for the racist; have fun getting your own players to stay with the team; have fun getting your fans to buy anything associated with the Clippers while Sterling owns the team.

Hyperbole doesn't suit you.

Would you want to deny others freedom of speech by not allowing them voice their opinions on what this guy said? It works both ways don't you know?

the bit about imprisoning him for becoming rich sure sounds left wing to me but the second half of your post is good

He never said anything about imprisoning him for becoming rich. Although judging from that post, he didn't sound like he knew many of the facts surrounding Sterling.

I agree. So you agree that nobody from here on in is not entitled to the words of vitriol expressed by others who disagree with something done legally and in private. And the days of using disparaging words like "Redneck", "Bible thumping wing nut", "gun toting asshole" and all of that are over, since we've now attached the PC bar to anything anyone says in private, and anyone who uses words who could hurt anyone else now has to suffer the consequences.

Freedom of speech means that we have the freedom to say what we want. It does not mean freedom from the consequences of saying what we want. In Stirling's case, he was free to say what he said, and the government will not haul him away and imprison him. However, there are consequences he must suffer, including the loss of sponsors, the loss of reputation, the violation of his NBA franchise contract, etc.

He is suffering those consequences now, and basically that's fine with me. What isn't so fine with me is that the NBA has not issued punitive measures; it has attempted to completely destroy him, prevent him from participating in his own team to the extent that it has in essence stripped his team from him. Overkill, and although lawyers will no doubt be fighting this for years, I suspect it will eventually be deemed as excessive and reduced by the courts.

I saw lots of the hate coming from the claim that Sterling stepped on others to become rich

the typical far left claim about capitalism-those who succeed screwed over others

true, its essentially a contractual matter. he also should pursue whatever avenues he can against the person who leaked that comment. The NBA oozes hypocrisy

The girlfriend should be charged both criminally (although it's just a misdemeanor, I understand) and civilly, where Sterling's lawyers will strip her of everything including her snagged pantyhose by the time they are done with her in court.

Yeah that's a good point She might spend the next couple years looking over her shoulder worried that Sterling might have some "family friends" including a guy named "Viktor"

Not really. He is a scumbag and should have had his franchise taken away when he was denying housing to people because of their race. Sadly, the NBA was more than willing to ignore it then because it wasn't this big sexy story. Though, he is getting what is coming to him.

If he has been violating EEOC housing rules for years and getting away with it, that's on the government. My guess is that palms were being greased, political donations were being passed out, and those who could have held him accountable for his behavior merely profited from it. Whole 'nother ball of worms.

Here we have a man who, based on a single phone call, has not only been fined, but has been barred from basketball for life, which essentially strips him of ownership of his team. I believe it's excessive, probably because the NBA has known for decades what a racist scum Stirling is and leapt at the chance to get him out of the game altogether. However, you mustn't lose sight of the fact that just about everyone in the league has known what a racist dickwad Stirling is, yet they still took his money and said thank you very much. Now everyone smells blood and has their hooks out to take ALL of his money all at once, and keep it for themselves.

Ahem. I don't think that what the NBA did was legal, but that's for contract law lawyers to hash out in the months to come. It reeks of overkill, retribution, and greed. That's just my opinion. As I've said, Stirling is scum and I won't lose a minute's sleep over it.

Donald Sterling is a sorry piece of liberal excrement. That is all.......
