And who, exactly, is going to make me pay a $2.5 million dollar fine? The NBA?

More likely the IRS in your case.

All I can say is I'm sure glad my children didn't record me when I told them not to bring any gang banger over to the house. I couldn't afford paying a $2.5 million fine.

So your claim is now that the IRS is going to start fining people for "racist comments." (Of course, my comment wasn't even remotely racist, but whatever). Of course, that's pure fantasy; Sterling was not fined or sanctioned in any way by the government. You are just being dishonest again.

The "Thought Police" aren't necessary the government. But they do have a political agenda.

You have some racist slumlord Hollywood liberal elitist who's having a private conversation with his slutty whore friend and the Thought Police came after him big time.

BTW: When was the last time you read George Orwell's novel "Nineteen Eighty-Four" ?

Where did you hear that from ?

I do remember that they used a Marine V-22 Osprey to transport a bunch of Obama's basketballs from the White House to Martha's Vineyard.

The way you were acting, it seemed like a possibility.

The NBA took down Sterling because he was an embarrassment to the league.

The lessons of 1984 aren't even remotely applicable in the Sterling case. Fail.

Pretty sure he was referring to the technology thing. I know some here trust the government implicitly, but the more prudent do not. You know, drones, NSA, spying, Big Brother...

For his racist comments caught on tape, Clippers owner Donald Sterling recently had this ruling put on him by NBA commissioner Adam Silver:

$2.5M fine (maximum allowed in by-laws)
Lifetime ban from NBA games
Lifetime ban from NBA function
Zero access to facilities during Clippers games and practices
Urging by the BoD to owners for forced divestiture of ownership

Was the hammer too great, or spot on?

Also to take into consideration:

He spoke these words on his private property
He broke no actual laws
His girlfriend broke the law by recording him without his knowledge

Gee I wonder which way you lean on this ?

Pretty sure a. this has nothing to do with the government, and b. she recorded him with a cellphone.

If someone wants to gripe about the NSA surveillance, make a thread to discuss it and I'll happily chime in that I think it sucks. But it's wholly irrelevant to this particular scenario.

The NBA is a private organization. They can do whatever they want within the boundaries of the law and mutually agreed upon contracts.

None of that is in any way relevant.

They weren't ? Donald Sterling was speaking his thoughts in private, never intended to be public.

The term "Thought Police," has come to refer to real or perceived enforcement of ideological correctness, or preemptive policing by white beard scratching liberals.

Thought Police Operations:

The government or a political movement attempts to control not only the speech and actions, but also the thoughts of society, labeling unapproved thoughts with the term of racist, homophobic or xenophobic.

The Thought Police operate a false resistance movement in order to lure in citizens into entrapment

The Thought Police observe the actions of individuals or groups and take note of anything that resembles an unorthodox opinion or an inner struggle against political correctness.

The Thought Police also target and eliminate highly intelligent people, since they may come to realize how the government or the political organization are exploiting them.

The Thought Police generally spread false rumors, identifying and eliminating any individual deemed capable of independent thought or rebellion against the political agenda.

All citizens live their lives under constant supervision of the Thought Police be it CCTV, drones flying overhead or prostitutes.

He was not penalized for being a racist(by the definition I use, you cannot even be sure he is one). He is not being penalized for his thoughts. He is being penalized because of the negative publicity brought about by his actions, which affect the business.

Last I checked a cellphone has spy capable technology. Wasn't Sterling recorded without his knowledge? Get it now?

He absolutely was, and I have no doubt that the woman who did it will (rightfully) be prosecuted for it. Still, trying to tie this to NSA surveillance is pretty tenuous.

The actions he's being penalized for were not intentional and not done in public. It was a private conversation in ones home.

But going back to the 1980's, it seems Donald Sterling prejudges or is prejudice against many "cultures" and has discriminated against Koreans and Mexicans even though he seems to get a woody over young Latina's. Sterlings last felleto expert was also a Latina by the name of Castro. She charged Donald $500. each time she went down on Donald. Some times as much as five times a day.

This amounts to cutting someone's hand off because that person picked their nose in the bathroom. He didn't do anything illegal. Is there something in his contract saying he can't say anything offensive? If not, hopefully he sues and win.

They where still actions. He was not penalized for his thoughts. He was not penalized for being a racist.

He was penalized because the NBA players wanted him penalized.

Well, that was just what I heard on the news a few minutes ago from Staples Center.

No, he was penalized because the NBA wanted to minimize any possible financial damage caused by this.

I'm hopping that this becomes a tipping point where we can tell black people to shut up and get over it. Corporate America doesn't need their money that much.

I put up with Barkley's racist ass without whining. They can do the same.

what exactly was his words going to do to cost the NBA money? I am curious. If you are a basketball fan would this matter? Marge Schott (I am familiar with this since when I was in private practice, my firm represented one of the minority owners) made some stupid comments and despite the hysterical overreaction by Bud Selig (who apparently had a hard on for German-Catholic Schott), her silliness did not cost the NL money

Well, let's see, according to players union VP Roger Mason Jr., the players were ready to boycott tonight's three games, and several sponsors jumped ship.

What financial damage ? Were blacks and prostitutes going to boycott the NBA ?

I'm sure the race baiters Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would have organized a boycott, they always do.

What did you think of President Obama interjecting his thoughts into the issue over the past weekend ? POTUS isn't suppose to do things like that.

Remember when Nixon screwed up ?
