Currently, he US gives over 1 billion dollars a year to Egypt. However, Egypt has recently engaged in some very big human rights violations. For example it just sentenced 683 members of the Muslim Brotherhood to death in a mass trial.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s spiritual leader and more than 680 other people were sentenced to death Monday stemming from last year’s post-coup violence in the latest mass trial that was denounced in the West and by human rights groups as contrary to the rule of law.
....

Should the US stop giving aid to Egypt?

We should stop military aid to *EVERYONE*. If you can't afford to fight your own wars and pay your own way, screw you.

If Egypt puts 683 Muslim Brotherhood members to death, I think Egypt should get a bonus.

But I believe that Egypt will soon be cozying up to Russia since Russia is now the big boy in the Middle East.

I'm trying to find some sympathy for the human rights violations and death sentences given to those 683 members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Give me a moment...................

Nope. Ain't happening.

I got nothing.............

The entire Middle East is little more than a clusterf#ck and a waste of time and resources. They seem to hate us and yet want our help in doing so.

Let Allah protect them from each other.

The use of foreign aid, whether military or not, used in order to have nations cooperate (e.g. have Egypt make nice with Israel) must be balanced with the cost of not doing so. Gov't spending programs, once started, are not easily stopped.

If "human rights" violations were the measure of "good" nations then the U.S. is very hypocritical, as we placed sanctions on South Africa, for not letting blacks vote and have full rights, yet treat China and Saudi Arabia (valued trading partners) as friends, where nobody can vote and human rights are all but nonexistent.

Once you take carrots "off the table" then you are left with only sticks (playing world policeman?) as negotiating tools. So long as this is the new foreign policy that you wish for, and are willing to accept the outcome, then give it a try.

The Muslim Brotherhood candidates were legitimately elected. Although somewhat conservative-fundamentalist, they were considered a moderating influence compared to other Islamists in Egypt at the time. They did not commit terrorism or oppress their opposition as much as the military government is now. They were not removed from office through a legitimate process, the military overthrew the government and is now persecuting the previous election winners. Overthrowing a legitimate government and persecuting the Brotherhood with a military coup is not going to stop fundamentalist Islamists, instead they will be more likely to use means other than the electoral process next time.

The current government should face some sanctions and/or other pressure to stop the oppression of the Brotherhood. However, much of the reason for the high levels of aid from the USA is because Egypt has been somewhat supportive and protective of Israel. As long as they continue to do that, there will be little interest or chance that Egypt's aid will be cut significantly.

Some call that injustice.

i call it return on investment.

I do think we should supply Egypt with plenty of pork rinds though.

See?

I can be a nice guy when I want to be. LOL!

What did the Muslim Brotherhood do to deserve murder?

What did the Muslim Brotherhood do to deserve murder?

I suppose you would get a better answer from those who murdered them.

Wouldn't it be cool though, if it was televised?

Should the US stop giving aid to Egypt?

Yes, or at least curtailing it and threatening more. We shouldn't allow ourselves to be drawn into the same trap that we made for ourselves with Mubarak.

Should the US stop giving aid to Egypt?

Yes. But not for the reasons given in your post. The US should stop giving military aid to all countries except our own.

Egypt's military is among the best equipped in the world how it needs aid is questionable. its equipment includes but is not limited to:

M1 abrams
Bradley APCs
Apache Gunships
MRAPs
HMMWVs

allot of its equipment is american standard with the notable addition of the M1 Abram a third gen main battle tank. Why did the Americans allow Egypt to procure such equipment? what war is Egypt intending on fighting, i mean you cant use an M1 for crowd control? The Israeli Sabra tank pales in comparison, the M1s reactive composite armor would shrug off a 120mm round from a Sabra as if it were swotting a fly. Why would the US allow this technology to fall in to the hands of a known enemy of Israel (its best Friend)? The M1 Abram is rated among the top 10 tanks in the world. (The world's top 10 main battle tanks - Army Technology).

What did the Muslim Brotherhood do to deserve murder?

Do you know the history of the Muslim Brotherhood ?

Have you ever heard of Islamist fascism ?

You are aware that there was a Muslim Brotherhood SS regiments fighting under Hitler's command during WW ll.

Those aren't German SS troops but Muslim Brotherhood troops serving in Hitlers SS.

Adolf Hitler and the Muslim Brotherhood, page 1

a number of country's aligned themselves with Germany during world war 2 including Japan, Italy, Slovak Republic, Romania, Croatia, Bulgaria, Serbia(1941-1944), Hungary & Montenegro do these country's also deserve to have their civilians murdered for the deeds of their forefathers?

Any adult involved in WWII is over 86 years old. Is that all you have?

Any Jew in Europe who was an adult during the Holocaust and survived is over 86 years old. So where are you coming from ?

Before 1930 Jews and Muslims lived side by side in Palestine. It was Adolph Hitler who convinced the Muslim Brotherhood that antisemitism was the way to go.

From the Anti-defamation League Profile: Egypt
"Anti-Semitism in the Muslim/Arab World
Profile: Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood

The overthrow of Hosni Mubarak's regime by the Egyptian people in February 2011 marks a turning point in the political development of the Muslim Brotherhood, the country's largest and best organized religious, social and political movement. Since the upheaval, the Brotherhood has sought to quickly assert its influence and define the role it will play in Egypt's post-revolutionary political system. On June 24, 2012, one of the Brotherhood's very own leaders, Mohamed Morsi, was elected president of Egypt.

Although the group has vowed to promote peaceful co-existence and stability within Egypt by means of fostering better relations between Muslim and Christian citizens, the Brotherhood's leadership continues to articulate its historical and ideological opposition to the existence of the State of Israel and to the 1979 Camp David peace accord between the two countries."

The full report includes this statement on Israel from FJP's [Muslim Brotherhood's political arm] official political program:

"The issue of Palestine is the most important issue of Egyptian national security, in addition to being an Arab or Muslim cause, because the Zionist Entity is a racist colonizing expansionist entity, possessing weapons of mass destruction, which has caused the outbreak of many wars in the region, affecting the geographical, political, social and economic situation, disrupting development programs and displacing people from their homes, in addition to the acquisition of Islamic and Christian holy places in Palestine. Therefore the party sees the need to make all efforts to resolve this issue and ensure the rights of Palestinian self-determination and the return of refugees to their homes, establish their state and its capital Jerusalem, restore all the holy places of Muslims and Christians in Palestine and the evacuation of the entire region(Middle East) of weapons of mass destruction."

ADL Welcomes Resignation of Morsi Adviser who Called for Jews to ‘Leave Israel’

New York, NY, January 7, 2013 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today welcomed the resignation of a close adviser to Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi who last week called for Jews of Egyptian descent to return to Egypt and “leave Israel.”

The official, Essam al-Erian, also reportedly referred to Israel as a “brutal, bloody and racist” state that was guilty of “war crimes against humanity.” He predicted the Jewish state would disappear within a decade. Al-Erian is the deputy head of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party. According to news reports, he submitted his resignation as a presidential adviser earlier today.

“We welcome the resignation of Essam al-Erian,” said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. “We hope that President Morsi and other Egyptian government leaders will now make it clear that the defamation of Israel and Jews has no place in the country’s national dialogue.”

Although the Brotherhood includes anti-Jewish elements and favor the Palestinian position regarding Israel, I haven't seen any evidence that they persecuted Jews while in power or did anything else justifying mass murder and imprisonment of their members.
