When I went to work for Perot back in 1992 I started to feel the same way you do now. One of the reasons was that Perot told me to take a few steps back, put cotton in your ears to block out all the rhetoric, slogans, talking points etc. Then just watch how the two parties govern. I did that, I found out both parties govern just about the same. It is the noise they make, their rhetoric that is polar opposite, not the way they govern. Both govern in the business as usual mode.

I also voted for Perot in 1992. I was so dissapointed in both parties at the time. I don't regret my vote for him, and 20+ years later, I'm not sure he would have made a good President. But so many of the points he made resonated with me.

Sad, isn't it?

Btw...did you actually meet Perot? If so, what was he like?

Sensible people vote for candidates. Brainwashed idiots vote for parties.

 Okay Gipper

.....hypothetical is, last two standing. One is a Republican and One is a Democrat.

Ted Cruz and Joe Biden. Only two that is left.

Now which do you vote for.....the Democrat or the Republican. Or do you abstain from voting which allows the Democrat to win by Default?

The problem is that in the past the qualities that I like in a candidate are not the qualities that the GOP primary voters like in a candidate. For example, in the last election I wrote a contribution check to the Jon Huntsman campaign when he announced only to watch him go absolutely no where in the primaries. Maybe it will be different this time around, but I am not getting my hopes up.

I blame my state for Huntsman's loss. I advocated him to many of my conservative friends but was told he was "too moderate", something that I didn't think was really all that bad given the partisanship that exists in our country. His campaign never got footing up here. Too bad, too, because he was the best candidate IMO.

Among the Republican bunch? None. Ron Paul is the only one I can think of and, well, he's retired so he doesn't really count.

What about Mike Pence?

The good news about the Perot run was he brought the national debt into the political arena of issues. Without him I seriously doubt if either party would have tried to balance the budget. Clinton the the GOP congress took a lot of his ideas and ran with them, in the end we had a balanced budget in Clinton's last year, at least as close as we are probably ever going to get.

But taking ideas from a third party candidate and adopting them as your own is nothing new for the two major parties. So his run at that time I consider it a blessing for this Country.

Damn, I think you are right. Ross told you that?

The last few POTUS elections I've voted for the GOP candidate, mostly because I simply *could not* have voted for the alternative.

In 2016 it all depends.

There are a few Dems I would actually vote for - Joe Manchin, Evan Bayh (even though he's no longer in DC), even the guy who was the Democratic governor of my state until 2012 (I voted for him more than once). And some who are being discussed as possibilities who I wouldn't vote for - Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, for example.

There are a few Republicans I would vote for - Jon Huntsman quickly comes to mind. Some I won't consider - such as Mike Huckabee.

LMAO that was a long answer. I guess the answer depends on who is the nominee for each party.

Yeah Evan Bayh is a good guy......Blue dog Democrat. I don't agree with his ideology over Foreign Policy. But he does assess it straight up. Whether other Demos like it or not. Hillary had him Pegged for VP if she should have won. He is good friends with the Clinton-crats. But doesn't follow them blindly.

Mitch Daniels would be 10 times better.....but he says he isn't in the Running.

Very conservative but plays both sides. I need to read more about it, but from the little I have read he was insturmental for getting common core thrown out. Then putting in something just like common core, appearently making both sides happy.
I've never heard of him, but I'll take a look.

Sad, isn't it?

Btw...did you actually meet Perot? If so, what was he like?

Yes, I did. If you don’t mind a quick story on how I became aware of him. In 1969 I was station in Vientiane Laos as part of Project 404. Vientiane had a North Vietnamese Embassy, a South Vietnamese Embassy, an American one, a Russian one, a Nationalist and Red Chinese Embassies etc. In December of 1969 Ross chose Vientiane to fly his plane full of Christmas gifts for POW’s held in Hanoi. Up till that he had been unsuccessful in getting the North Vietnamese to accept the Christmas Gifts.

But Ross walked up to the gates of the North Vietnamese Embassy with several truckloads of the Christmas gifts for our POWs with a bunch of reporters. He demanded to see the North Vietnamese Ambassador which wouldn’t see him. But he gave it one heck of a try to get these presents to our POWs. I never forgot that and when he decided to run for president in 1992, I jumped aboard.

Ross was a short little guy and could be kind of tart when talking to you if that is the right word. He would say what was on his mind and no one would ever doubt he meant what he said. There was no guessing which I think was a very good thing. He was always kind though, just and a tough task master comes to mind. I only got to talk to him for a few minutes, I wanted to tell him that I remembered his Vientiane visit, but as during campaigns, time would not permit.

I was one of his electors in his 1996 campaign for Georgia. If he would have won Georgia I would have been able to cast one electoral vote for him. Between Ross and Barry Goldwater, I think they shaped my political views which I have today immensely.

Damn, I think you are right. Ross told you that?

Yep, that was back in 1992 on one of his visits to Georgia. He was running as an independent then before the formation of the Reform Party which I still claim as my political party. Well, it wasn't just me, he was addressing his Georgia volunteers.

I met a famous politician myself.

I once met Ron Paul...well I shook his hand...well I tried to shake his hand...well I wanted to shake his hand...well I....

...okay, I have never met a famous politician.

GOP wise I could vote for Jon Huntsman.

Democrat wise I like Hilary as a person, but Ill have to see what she comes out with as a platform

I usually give very strong consideration to 3rd party candidates. I hold a very negative view of the 2 party system and use every opportunity to vote outside of that.

LOL, I don't know if Ross is/was all that famous. But he sure made me do a U-Turn so to speak in the way I viewed politics.

As of right now, the only Republican I'd consider voting for, regardless of the Democratic nominee, is Jon Huntsman. There's something about him that doesn't make me mad when I hear him speak.

I met him to Pero. He signed his book I had. United We Stand. He was Right about quite a few things.

I'd say he is famous...especially if you are an American over 30.

Actually, Ron Paul made a big impression on me. He has been a beacon of rationality in a sea of irrationality. I am SO sorry he retired.

I don't agree with everything he says...but what he says seems so logical, politically brave, rational and unencumbered by partisan politics.

I love Daniels. I was really hoping to see him as a VP candidate.

He may take that on.....as Right now he is heading a Think Tank and running Purdue, I think it is.

I met Ron Paul. I've met all of them here in NH, even Obama and Clinton.

Now THAT would be a ticket I would support.

I think many could get behind that ticket......moreover the Demos don't have any that can compete off of Credentials.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing Condi take on Hillary.....now that would be interesting to watch play out with the Demos. I see Implosion.
