People are claiming that the national interest in the Martin case was because of a Florida law, and excusing Obama at the same time. Obama's words were not about Stand Your Ground - he was talking about Martin being followed by Zimmerman because Martin was black.

Obama spoke after Zimmerman was aquitted. His entire speech was about racial profiling.

    Talk about disingenuous comments.
If you want to respond to my post without the bother of actually quoting it, hence notifying me, then I suggest that my comments were not the disingenuous ones. Since you didn't bother to refute any specifics cited in my post, I presume it is because everything I cited in my post is true and verifiable... also, in contrast to what others were saying when they pretended that it was Obama's comment and Sharpton's interference that caused the national media frenzy, when in fact it was the national media frenzy caused by Florida's Stand Your Ground Law, which allowed an unarmed teenager to be gunned down without an arrest being made simply because the shooter shrugged and said he was afraid which caused Obama's comments and Sharpton's interference in the first place.

When people post misleading and outright false tripe like that, other people are going to point out their mistakes. When people call posts pointing out verifiable facts as "disingenuous", other people will note that as well.

See, I too can avoid responsibility for responding directly by pretending to be talking about "people" when referring to facts in a post only one person has posted. But I don't do that. I look people in the eye... figuratively, of course... when I am speaking or responding directly to them. It's easy. You should try it.

This isn't a race baiting thread, it's a thread about race baiting....and yellow journalism. Personally, I hate race baiting very nearly as much as I hate racism...and I think this yellow journalism only serves to perpetuate racism.

The difference in the Trayvon Martin case is palpable. An unarmed teenager was killed by a guy who'd been literally stalking him, and the police didn't even arrest the shooter. Why? Because of Florida's Stand Your Ground Law... that's why. Under SYG, the shooter simply had to tell the police that he feared for his life, then the police pat him on the back and send him home... because, as John Stewart so aptly put it, "He said, he dead", so only one side of the story was told and only one side was necessary according to SYG.
The police didn't arrest the shooter because they assumed it was self defense....an assumption backed up by the eventual verdict in court despite the national hoopla.

That is why it became national news as the outrage over the fact that a teenager could be gunned down a few steps from his own apartment, and the shooter just shrugged and said, "Hey, I was afraid" and poof! The police send him on his way even before the body was moved.
No, it became national coverage because NBC heavily edited the 911 call to make it seem racially motivated.

As for those who are using Al Sharpton, whom I despise, and Obama, for whom I have little use, as a scapegoat for the public outrage, may I remind you that neither of them said anything or had any knowledge of this case before the story went national, and made their statements after the story had become #1 news on all the media. They did not cause the public outcry; they responded to it.
I would characterize it as "added to it".

I swear to god, people seem to shake their heads so hard their brains fly out their ears when it comes to this Martin/Zimmerman ****-storm, otherwise known as the story that will never die. I'm sick to death of seeing it brought up every time someone gets a bug up their ass to create yet another race-baiting thread.
Again, this thread isn't about Martin/Zimmerman.

I've responded to you elsewhere, and won't repeat myself here beyond reiterating that we definitely do not agree on this topic.

    And I replied elsewhere.

Sorry you don't see the intended point, but, like many others....are simply blinded by the mention of "Zimmerman". Whether you like it or not, Martin/Zimmerman is now a part of our history....it may get referenced from time to time, just like the fall of Rome, and the Inquisition. It comes up.

I don't have to quote anyone when I post here.

And I stand by my opinion that Obama was race baiting. Stand Your Ground had nothing to do with Obama's comments about black men being followed in department stores - and Zimmerman was Hispanic.

The SYG law was never used in the Zimmerman defense. It was a case decided based on self defense or justifiable homicide. To assert that SYG law was the issue ignores that the racial "motive" allegations were the issue. Many wanted the Zimmerman case to be about race (racial profiling?), perhaps even a "hate crime", but the jury saw ample justification for the use of deadly force in self defense. Police did not initially charge, and the jury did not finally convict, Zimmerman because there was not sufficient evidence to to so.

Funny this has nothing to do with Martin Zimmerman case.

The shooter is just a nut case that was locked up as soon as he was apprehended. It happend about 2 miles from where I am sitting right now and the news around here was daily right after it happened. I see no connections at all with this case and race, perhaps the way we handle minor crime could be a topic but race nor self defense has any bearing.

When did murder become a minor crime? Man is dead, unborn baby will live with out a father, wife without a husband. Don't sound minor to me.
