Is it appropriate for government employees to claim that they are self sufficient?

Is it appropriate for government employees to look down on people who receive government benefits?

Had a negative experience recently, have we?

Yes they are self sufficient. No its wrong to look down on people who receives gov benefits. Hell its wrong to look down on anyone who receives government benefits.

Yes to both. People should be shamed when they leech. Might make them think twice to steal in the future.

It's not appropriate for government employees to claim they are self sufficient. They arent, they rely on me and every other taxpayer for their paycheck. They should start acting like it, and realizing who the real boss is.

Yes it's appropriate for them to look down on people who receive welfare. They work, people on welfare don't. They may get paid with stolen money, but at least they work for that stolen money. Sort of.

Technically, no one is self sufficient if they're using things like public roads, but if you use the term more loosely, then yes, a government worker can be self sufficient. The second one is a no-brainer, so option #3.

Shamed to leech?

You said they are self sufficient.

So the only means of self-sufficiency is if customers buy a product in a store? And what if that business was started with government grants - what then? No one in that business is self sufficient by default?

When you're employed by the government the money isn't given for free simply by walking into an office, filling out paperwork, and applying for 'income benefits'.

You have to do a job, satisfy that job, and you receive pay.

To claim that soldiers aren't self sufficient because they're employed through the government yet a waitress is self-sufficient is idiotic. Government employees apply for a JOB. They're contracted / employed. It's not the same as being given benefits at your local WIC hub. If they fail to do a good job they lose their job just like everyone else.

The source of the employers revenue to pay their employees isn't what makes or breaks this self-sufficiency.

Why should I be ashamend to recieve government benefits.

I love going to parks, libraries, and monuments. I love driving on government roads. I love recieving clean water, natural gas and electricity delivered directly to my house. I am at ease when I go to my grocer, that the hamburger meat is not 20% sawdust off the floor. It is comforting to know I have police and fire protection a at a phone call. I enjoy that my Lawer, my doctor, and other professionals I deal with are held to a standard of comportment and competence.

I love my government benefits.

If they don't have the skills then they are not employed as a government worker. If they don't do the work that they signed up for then they do not have a job. Just because taxpayer money pays their checks does not mean that they are not self sufficient, particularly since the same skills they have as a government employee is useable in the private sector also.

Common belief of those that think only lazy couch patatoes recieve welfare. Hate to break it to you but there are lots of people that work minimum wages jobs yet still get welfare so that they can make ends meet. And despite all the rhetoric being able to improve one skills via accredited schools is not near as easy when you can only get minimum wage jobs. Not everyone qualifies for loans or grants.

They are 'self-sufficient' based on that they have obtained and kept a job, regardless of where the funding for that job comes from. If one were to follow that train of thought, anyone who works for a government supplier (though private employer) would be considered not self sufficient.

It's not appropriate to look down on someone who receives assistance, especially since they are the reason the job they hold was created in the first place.
