I don't support drafts except for extreme situations (i.e WWII) but if men are getting drafted, so should women. Drafting women will make going to war much less attractive for many people since young women are considered more valuable than young men.

The assignments of all military personnel should be based on their proven abilities and interests, not on gender.

The draft will never happen in the US again. If it did happen, we don't need a stack of paperwork (virtual or otherwise) to facilitate it - we're no longer living in 1950. Selective service registration is a waste of money and time. And you want to make it bigger! What are you, a socialist?

A waste of time and money? Expand it!

i'd eliminate it. there's no draft, and if there ever is one, everyone already has a social security number.

so you are saying all men are the same and all women are the same?

The idea of women being subject to the same obligation as men with regard to military service, and the idea of women serving in combat, is surely one of the most blatant areas in which this error can be seen.
except we see women in combat in other countries. If they are capable why not. No one is suggesting that they get an automatic place we are talking about signing up for a potential draft.

It is the natural role and duty of men to protect women, and to fight violently, where necessary, to do so.
Seriously? Violent women have been part of history as well. Sometimes it was women who did the protecting.

This is programmed into us by instinct.
    Bull****

Similarly, wherever else the use of violence is called for, this falls under the natural role and duty of men, and not of women. To hold that women should bear the same obligation as men in this regard, is to deny the basic natural differences between men and women.
I don't think you know what you are talking about.

In a practical sense, if you put men and women in a situation where they are fighting side by side against a common enemy, it is going to be the natural instinct of every real man who is of any value as a man, to protect the women around him at the expense of the cause for which he is supposed to be fighting.
Real men???? Are their fake men? Oh I get it you create a definition of men and women and anyone who doesn't fall into it is not real. Narrow views of the world limit success. I am sorry you are so narrow minded. Well trained armies don't do this. I know there are men who can't handle being around women without going crazy, I wouldn't want them in my unit in general. Most men can be trained to do their job.

Aside form the obvious reduction in effectiveness as a military force, one has to consider the implications of training men and women for this situation, to override their natural instincts, when they are later returned to civilian society.
Except there is a natural instinct to keep our friends safe. Were you in combat? Have you ever fought with someone you cared about? How is that different?

What can be the impact, in a civilian society, of men who have been trained to override their natural instinct to protect women?
Seriously? wow really? this is an argument?

What of women who have been trained to engage in violence outside of their inherent nature?
Again I think you are just scared of strong women. You should get help.

Neither of these is going to be good for the society into which these former soldiers are returned.
Well since this is about a potential draft I don't think we have to worry about it. But wait, women have been in combat, for 10 years at least. Society is still intact. Perhaps you could have a conversation with a certain Senator from Illinois. You know the one with no legs.

I am glad your mindset is a dying breed.

If there is a draft exception and one decides to run for political office decades down the road as a Republican, liberals will call them a draft dodger.

Anyone who had any value as a real man would have a very strong instinct to do otherwise, to protect the women above all else. This is our natural instinct, role, and duty as men. May Laurence Tureaud have compassion toward you if you either were lacking this instinct, or if you have allowed it to be trained out of you.

Wives, daughters, sisters, nieces, aunts, and all other manner of female kin and acquaintances. When we, as a society, sink to the point where we are willing to send our women off as cannon fodder, then I think we need to acknowledge that we've reached the point where there is nothing left of our society that is worth fighting for.

Men and women are not physically equal even if they are mentally equal. Hence having to downgrade physical requirements for females in the military, police and fire departments.

If you fail to sign up you can face jail time, be fined, and is denied aid for college.
Yes - with mandatory birth control and penalties for becoming pregnant at time of deployment.
