I know that the first thing I want to do with a broke government program is expand it. Let's expand Social Security while we're at it.

So you want to nationalize insurance to increase efficiency and reduce cost.

I'm sorry, but that makes no sense. Healthcare spending/costs in the US accounts for about 18% of US GDP annually. The payroll tax isn't even sufficient to cover what it's designed to cover - social security and unemployment insurance - if you don't raise the payroll tax, how the hell are you going to pay for healthcare?

You could actually work for Harry Reid because his grasp of economic principles and the cost of policies is about as shallow as this concept.

    Surprising, huh?

He asks how we're going to pay for it in response to your post where you explain how we should pay for it

I'm right there with you. If the plan is sound I'm okay if the tax increase is only up to 3/4 of what I currently pay for insurance. Of course that's health insurance alone - dental, for some idiot reason, is on it's own.

Well, considering the ones who pay taxes are paying for everything right now anyway, consider this:

If the tax increase is less than what you pay for health insurance alone, then it's a break isn't it?

Review the cost numbers for other nations with such a system

Perhaps I was unclear, for the purposes of this plan I would leave the payroll tax alone. You would purchase and pay the premiums through the government. Today the Medicare portion of the payroll tax pays for hospitalization for 65+ seniors.
