No...definitely not an income requirement. But...you know...basic requirements...like...a pulse, citizenship...etc... It WOULD be cool if we could determine if people actually knew who and what they were voting FOR, but then...why put a requirement on the citizenry that we dont place on congress?

If you expect people to be rational, you aren't being rational.

My base annual income as of March 19, 2014 = $16,302
    My wife's base income as of March 19, 2014 = $18,720
Additional source of income as of March 20, 2014 = $10,400

    Total income = $45,422.

In the course of 2 days my household income jumped by $15,622.

How does this make me a better person than I was 2 days prior? I don't get it. My eligibility for many government benefits vanished. Does this make me a better person from a moral perspective? If so, what was I doing wrong before this happened? What was I doing right that caused this to happen? How did my character change just in the course of 2 days?

I voted for the third option but I know lots of people believe that scum bags have low incomes and good people have high incomes.

Perhaps this exercise will allow them the opportunity to explain their world view.

    Your premise is inappropriate.

Money will make you neither a better person nor will it make you a worse person.

Who are the people you know that have told you this?
I am not of the mind that a man is either of science or of religion. At his best and his worst, man exists in the misty glimmering where the falling angel meets the rising ape. That he chooses a direction from that point defines him as human.

Increased assery correlates with increased income. I've watched it thousands of times. People start at low salary and are ok people, they get promoted and become a little convinced by their own publicity, promoted again they become egotistic smug pricks and the more money they get the more they generate inflated self worth and see everyone else's lack thereof. They lose any concept of doing anything decent. They do what is asked of them, take the money and are thoroughly nasty people who lie continually just in the course of any day.

They also become very, very boring company.

You are not forwarding any of that income my way, so no, IMO you are no better than you were previously.

Any time you have seen something "thousands of times" and it has had negative results...at SOME point you MIGHT want to consider the common element might not be the wealth and success or even the 'others'...but...maybe...well...you know...

    you.

See the post in this thread written by Cardinal. Turtledude, Mistervitis, Cephus and Lizzie are a few more that might believe that way. I'm sure I left a dozen names off of the list.

I don't work any more or any less. I was always willing to put forth the effort. Someone just hired me for a part time job and someone gave my wife a raise. It wasn't anything that I done at all. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

I have always done both. I will continue to do both. Nothing changed about my attitude towards giving or receiving.

One person in my personal life. Many people in this thread. Of course they never direct it at me. They direct it generally about people like me.

They generalize that all people with low incomes are scum bags. If those scum bags get job offers for more money, they always take them. This makes little sense to me. This is the ideology that I am trying to challenge.
