Jeez is someone on drugs tonight? You are not making any sense whatsoever. You do know that George Carlin is dead and has been dead for awhile, right?
Slander doesn't help you. I am not on drugs because you don't understand. I know George Carlin is dead. That is why I used past tense words where necessary.

So your answer is to kill them all
No, did you forget how to read? I never once said or suggested kill anybody.

This is the problem with defeatist. You think standing up means kill everybody.

he politicians, the police, the caseworkers, the attorneys and all of City Hall????????????
You do realize one question mark is enough right????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? You also understand that refusal to give into them does not equal slaughter everybody right?
Go for it buddy and see what happens....
Why would I? This is your made up nonsense because you don't know the difference between stand up and kill everybody. It's because you have been defeated.

Weren't you the one who said that they would have to kill you to take your property? That authority is Illusian? That they can't take anything from you if you don't allow them to? So how would you stop them?

Weren't you the one who said that they would have to kill you to take your property?
yes, but that doesn't mean the same thing as mine. killing everybody. I hope you see your mistake now.
That authority is Illusian?
Nope, never said that.
That they can't take anything from you if you don't allow them to?
Us, not me, I am but one man. They don't take anything from us. We give it to them. Otherwise how did they get it. how did they take it?
So how would you stop them?
Numbers. If a large enough number of us stood up, they would stop. It's the only way to stop them.

Many activists did retreat, for good reason as they were being murdered and jailed...Unfortunately, most did not reemerge as activists.. Change had been accomplished to a point and they let others take up the struggle in a different way...

My interpretation of that generation had been that they faced the limitations of their dreams, and largely, rightfully so.

Acceptance of status quo that you do not like is defeat.

Maybe many like much of the systems that currently exist, or maybe the secret is that what you do not necessarily like might just be good for you.

So people bitch and complain about things they like?

When Carlin was talking about having a giant red white and blue **** jammed up his ass, hefe was talking about something he liked?

Carlin liked to use metaphors about being the guy who has been able to distance himself from humanity and world events so much that he was like a guy looking at the box that the rest of us were in, and he was able to (and wanted to) throw darts at the contents inside the box.

I think part of him absolutely hated the system, and was able to use his profession to be that distanced social critic (the one without feeling like he had much to gain by critiquing it, or by not critiquing it), and the other part simply benefited from the existence of the system which part of him despised.

Whatever the case, the regime tolerated, even celebrated his career. He was able to feel comfortable enough to feel like he was outside the system, which is quite a luxury-a luxury afforded to him by the system he apparently despised.

The comedian is perhaps best suited for the small nugget. Thoughtful, perhaps somewhat true, but still outside the scope of reality. Carlin was perhaps better at realizing this than Bill Hicks, but I think both (or perhaps only their fans) suffered from the same delusions.

I think your reading into the words of a clown far too much.

So an extended version of saying "funny, but useless" is reading more into it than those who want to build their political philosophies around the clown?

Who is doing that?

I say it's unfunny and useless.

Explicitly, a number of those on the thread. Nevertheless, when you asked about Carlin and red white and blue dick, I thought I'd chime in about some of his other anecdotes about why he said what he had said to his audience. He didn't give a damn, but he was also able to not give a damn because he was not really being repressed (unless you want to count the words he couldn't say on television bit). He railed against a system which dramatically benefited him, and he clearly liked what benefited him for his job.

I didn't vote in the opinion poll because I didn't like the choices offered, in any case opinion polls will not solve the many problems that the USA faces.

It will take direct action by the American people.

George Carlin was a really funny guy who had a lot of good material.

He didn't have all of the answers, but he was right about a lot of things.

I get a little upset when people surrender with out a fight.

China had tanks too.

I don't think that man cared about propaganda.

One unarmed man stopped a mechanized Calvary.

It's called the Tienamen Square Massacre for a reason. In fact, he may have been executed. Other people were run over by tanks.

What exactly do you see as the 'alternative'? Seriously...what is it people are looking for? Yes...you play the game and if you do it with hard work and forethought, the game becomes pretty easy. There are people that started with less than zero (through no fault of the 'system' or 'da man') and have managed to build comfortable happy lives. They won properties, businesses, boats, they go on vacations...they dont just exist, they do WELL. That opportunity exists as much today as it ever has. Hell it might be even easier today since there is so much available startup wealth. Multi gazillionaires like Gates and Jobs werent gifted successful corporations...they built them with hard work and innovation.Nothing has changed.

Pulling oneself up by the bootstraps has gotten progessively harder over the past 35 years or so.

Everything has gone up but wages. They have been stagnant or actually dropped during that period.

So sombody today has to work much harder to acheive the goals you speak of than they did in say 1970.

Jobs were much more secure then too. Most people worked one job their whole lives, with the expectation that if they performed their jobs they would be secure. Now its dog eat dog, no security.

And a LOT of people aren't equipped at birth to "compete" in todays economy. Never going to be a business owner. Never going to be a programmer or other high tech profession, regardless of how hard they try.

Pointing at successful outliers is still pointing at outliers. Many COULD succeed as you posit. But i do not believe this is even possible for the majority, much less "everybody". Saying some people still manage to succeed does NOT mean "anybody" can do it.

Hell, the idea of doing ANYTHING every day for years on end sounds like Hell to me. Its not in my nature. As soon as i get something "down" i lose all interest in it. I have a ridiculously large skillset, making me useful first day at every job i've worked. But i've never found one that would interest me forever.

LSS, the game has changed so significantly that "conventional wisdom" platitudes simply no longer apply.

1-Thats simply not true. You can and many people DO work their way up from poverty to prosperity. Immigrants manage to pull it off quite well. People that prepare themselves in High School for careers and a future manage to find success. Shockingly...kids that drop out of school or dont apply themselves at school because after all...it doesnt matter...they are going to be "professional gamers" when they grow up shockingly...fail. 2-Its not so much that the wages are stagnant but that that there ARE several large holes in our economy that have impacted good paying middle income industrial jobs. When the siren song of the down trodden calls for solving the 'problems' by raising the wages on McJobs to 15 an hour, its a pretty good indicator just how screwed up things are. 3-Again...what is your alternative?

I think he's pretty much spot on.

And I bet that 90% of the people in the audience who clapped and thought, "He's right", went home and voted for the incumbent in the next election.
