CNN Poll: Most see Russia as a threat to U.S.

Is Russia a threat to the USofA

they're only a threat to us if we keep doing the stupid dick measuring contests with them. Ukraine is about as much our business as Mexico is theirs.

here's what i want the US to do about Russia :

1. fix our damned roads
2. hire some damned people to do some damned **** so that our economy is better
3. replace the damned transportation energy model
4. upgrade the damned electrical grid

that's what the US should do about Russia. that's also what the US should do about China. stop poking the damned tiger who is half a world away. Europe, this one is on you.

I agree build the damn border fence and keep it MAINTAINED.

I am more concerned with our current dicktator. Then i am about Russia.

Russia's Defense Budget: 90 Billion dollars a year.
United States Defense Budget: 683 Billion dollars a year.
Russia GDP: 2.4 trillion.
United States GDP: 17.4 trillion.

Russia cannot even afford to fuel its Navy enough to project power worldwide. There is zero chance, zero chance at all that Russia could challenge the United States as a the world's most powerful nation.

They still have a huge stockpile of nukes that our missile defense system can't stop, although I wonder about that sometimes.

After an impressive history of testing everyone's patience, Yeltsin was gone like a fart in a hurricane after he uttered the magic words. To read certain posts on the Ukraine issue, I imagine that must have come as a surprise to some.

I have thought about all of this and it has got me to thinking. Its dangerous i know. What if this is all just noise look at my left hand look at my left hand hey whats your right doing?

Need to pay close attention to an new laws they may want to secretly pass on us!

So what though? Do you honestly think Russia would start a nuclear war with the USofA???????

That would destroy the entire world almost instantly. Russia would be incinerated, and turned into an unlivable wasteland for thousands of years.

Why would they START something like that knowing what the end result would be?

Are we really such ******s? Why are we so friggin scared of everybody and their brother?

Is Russia our enemy?

Is Russia a real threat?

Or are people just panty-waists that have been brainwashed into fearing everything?

A lot of us old timers never took Russia off the threat list, we just downgraded them when the USSR dissolved. Red China for us old timers is at the top of the list. On this current crisis though, we old foggies sort of view Ukraine as being in Russia’s back yard and if Russia wants to annex the Crimea, so be it. Especially if the majority of the Crimea vote to go with Russia. It is of my opinion the expansion of NATO to include the Eastern European nations, the old Warsaw Pact Countries was the beginning or the start of this crisis. I can understand the inclusion of Poland, Austria, etc. but no further east than Poland, Hungry and Romania.

In fact I think it would have been better to disband NATO after the Warsaw Pact was dissolved. But that is just my opinion and some of us old cold war warriors. I suppose we, at least I in a way still believe in the spheres of influence. If the Crimea votes to go with Russia, that is their business, not ours.

Anyone who is antagonistic toward us and is powerful enough to cause significant damage to us and our most important allies is a threat.

Hopefully, we know better now. Occassionally, I still see fallout shelter signs on old buildings....

I remember those on my old elementary school. Of course by my time there were no drills this since I was a 70s kid but the signs remained.

The signs were before my time, too. I think they were put up in the 50s...during the "atomic age". We have a lot of 'downwinders' in my state. It wasn't the Soviets we had to worry about...it was our own government using us for guinea pigs.

You know what our High School policy was during a nuke attack? Walk south along the railroad tracks. When I asked why, they said we don't know.

Basically, I took it as "you're screwed, so we'll give you something to keep your mind occupied."

Russia is not a direct threat to the US but will be a stick in the gears in the future. China is a future and greater threat.

I think that the majority of the people in Crimea want to break away from Russia but the percentages are exaggerated.

I do think a new cold war is in the making at least the policy of containment will be renewed.

How are they doing that?

Can't the same thing be said about what the US does?

No. The taking of a huge piece of Ukraine and it's trillion plus in oil, gas and resources making Ukraine permanent beggars of Russia now - after Ukraine gave up the 3rd largest nuclear arsenal in the world for promise from Russia, the USA, UK and other countries their border would be secure means there is no possible deal or treaty to make to any country for nuclear non-proliferation - as all such deals and treaties are 100% worthless.

There is a new rule clearly established. If you do not want your country overrun by a nuclear super power, get nuclear weapons FAST! Lots of them. Anyway possible. Consider anything any super power tells you to be a lie and trick.

That is what the lesson of Crimea is. Get nuclear weapons. Keep them. Get more.

I don't think it will be long before those will be going up all over the world. A decade or so before back here though.

We live near a defective nuclear plant - big crack in the containment chamber. Its turned off, but will take over a decade to totally shut down.

Sometimes they broadcast a warning that if we hear a siren go off, we should promptly go into our houses and close all the doors and windows.

That is the end of the advice too. Why? So they know where to find our bodies I suppose.

Who cares what the masses think, other then the ignorant masses?

These are the same political ignoramuses that re-elected both G.W. Bush and Obama...they are clearly clueless about the world we live in.

Conservative reaction to Russian actions is the threat to America. Though the Cons never want to spend any money on anything meaningful, as soon as the Cons feel they are losing the Big Dick contest, the credit cards come out (as do the wackadoo ideas... like talking about nukes...)

Economics and military industrial complex go hand-in-hand for the top bad ass countries. Economics slump...at the very least create tension between major players...then escalate it to the point of of the appearance of world destruction...then a huge peace keeping summit emerges. Meanwhile the production of military weapons, etc go sky high, lots of folks go back to work, governments print a lot more phony money...yadda, yadda, yadda....and the circle jerk continues on and on and on and on.

So, you are saying massive government spending is a ticket to economic health?

I voted not really in the sense that if we went to war against Russia we would win.But if did go to war against Russia it would cost us lots of lives and money.

Win???

Do you honestly think there'd be a "winner" in a US-Russia war?

In a sense where one country is the victor over the other? Yes. However there would be a high body count and massive environmental destruction..

The "winners" would be possibly Australia and some other countries in the deep southern hemisphere.

Just about anyone in the Northern Hemisphere would probably not classify themselves as winners if such a war happened today.

Of course a lot might depend on prevailing winds and such........
