Re: Has Bush made this country better?

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

1. Got us involved in a needless war in Iraq that has got over 3,000 Americans killed and cost an enormous amount of money.

2. Increased the federal debt by more than all other presidents combined, thanks to misdirected and (mostly) unnecessary tax cuts.

3. Has done absolutely nothing to move us toward energy independence.

4. Putting aside policy issues...his execution of his own policies has been incompetent beyond precedent.

Re: Has Bush made this country better?

A) Iraq. Took a brutal dictatorship and transformed it into a living hell filled with terrorists.

B) Economy. There are many ways people will say it has "improved". The Dow went up- over 7 years, that happens anyway. However, the middle class is strangling in stagnation, we are in horrible debt (not helped by the 100s of millions of dollars spent each day in Iraq, money that could easily be used for aiding the poor.

C) Image. As opposed to having allies in Europe, we now have foreign governments who avoid us as much as possible. Our actions in Iraq have created terrorism killing double digits times as many people as on 9/11.

D) Science vs. religion. While opposing stem cell research (using embryoes that cannot feel or think and would be destroyed anyway), Bush has allowed megachurches to tie strings around his arms and make him dance. I'm not sure how many on here saw the excerpt from "Root of All Evil?" In the R+P forum, but that guy Richard Dawkins interviewed can chat with the President whenever he wants to! It seems as if Bush is following his father religiously- "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God- Bush the 1st." Brrrrr.

E) The cause of endless, endless bad jokes (and new words{don'tyou DARE misunderestimate him}).

Re: Has Bush made this country better?

Democrats and Republicans never exactly took long hot showers together into the wee hours of the morning, but since Bush came into office the scream of partisan devision has reached deafening volumes. If so much as a vanilla versus chocolate ice cream debate ever erupted on FOX or MSNBC, we'd start killing each other in the streets and California would secede. With Bush we got the Blue vs. Red state mentality, an ideological civil war between states if not an outright military one.

Bush played a gigantic part in this, happily fostering an attitude that anybody who disagreed with him was Anti-American. That was a long term tactical error since he forever alienated a huge percentage of voters from ever voting for him or Republicans again.

It doesn't appear from reading the news that our allies are as pissed off at us as they were a couple years ago with Bush's go-screw-yourself international policies, but we've got a loooong ways to go before we have a third of the support that we had immediately following 9/11.

The world is a lot scarier than it was six years ago. North Korea and Iran are this close to becoming all out nuclear powers. Although it's hard to say what Bush did that was wrong exactly, one thing is clear: it wasn't right.

And then there's that whole systematic dismantling of environmental laws thing that really sucked.

Muslims rose up as big world players in the Book of Scary People, and Bush appears to have been a terrible person to be in power when all hell broke loose. Certainly he was ready for action, but that's all he appears to have been good for, cause he's been getting it wrong, one bungle after another since 9/11, and we're all going to pay for it.

No, Bush hasn't made this country better. I did support his decision to get a mission together to go to Mars, though. Mankind has so much depressing crap going for it that we need things like this to keep our dreams and morale alive.

I think Bush has made the country better...

1. He has taken the war to the terrorists and is very strong on defense.
2. He cut taxes, allowing American's to keep more of their own money.
3. He has placed very good judges on the Supreme Court.
4. The economy is strong and he has created many jobs.
5. There are many others.

Bush should have *really* made the country great by eliminating taxes, allowing American's to keep all of their own money, and financed the entire Govt expenditure on debt, as opposed to just the $3 trillion he's borrowed so far.

The next generation of US taxpayers might think it is a raw deal that they would have to pay for all of what our government spends, as opposed to just for the $4 trillion or so Bush will have borrowed by the time he is out of office. But hey, **** 'em. It only matters if he made the country better for me. I'm the pass the buck generation.

Why are you against people keeping more of their own money? Cutting taxes actually increases government revenue. Also, I wish we would cut all of these social programs... they are putting us in debt.

I agree... we need to cut spending. Less social programs...

1. He's made us a much more hated target and we are now fighting the war that the terrorists provoked us to fight
2. Cut taxes and did not reign in spending thus causing your offspring to pay for the huge debt.
3. Lol, I wouldn't go so far as very good. Decent.
4. I hear the coming of a recession - anyone?
5. None whatsoever.
